The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 642

Just as his hand was retreating, a small, cool hand grasped his fingers.

Lance's breath hitched.

Then, her other hand held his, coaxing his palm open. Her cool fingertip traced against his skin, writing out words stroke by stroke.

"Lance, keeping things the way they are is perfectly fine. We shouldn't ask for too much. I won't leave until your eyes recover."

Nathalie gazed at his strikingly handsome but pale face. She looked entirely sincere, though Lance couldn't see it.

Thinking about how his fingers had trembled as he pulled his hand back just moments ago, an indescribable ache settled in Nathalie's chest.

Looking back, he really had done a lot for her, and he was genuinely trying to make up for his past mistakes. He had shown his sincerity, and she had seen it.

But she couldn't let it go. Every time she saw him, she couldn't help but remember everything that had happened. The agonizing despair from all those nights she had broken down was still there.

So, the most she could do was take care of him while he was blind. Once he recovered, she would still choose to leave.

As the last stroke fell against his palm, Lance held her hand. His voice was laced with a hoarse edge. "Okay."

He agreed to her terms. They would maintain a temporary peace, just like before.

But he was far too greedy.

Having her by his side made him feel entirely fulfilled and warm. Just seeing her when he got home filled his chest with contentment. He didn't want to let go.

For now, his mindset remained the same. He would agree first. Whatever came next, they would deal with it later.

He held her hands, slowly chasing away the chill until her small hands warmed up.

Then, he said, "It's late. Go back and get some rest."
