The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 643

The bodyguard was completely baffled.

Before, Mr. Adams had tried every trick in the book to get Mrs. Adams to come over, even pretending to be weak and pitiful. But what was this?

Now that he was actually in pain, he didn't want her?

The bodyguard scratched his head in confusion, but he always followed orders.

The nurse quickly returned with the painkillers.

Lance took them and lay back down, quietly waiting for the medication to kick in.

The night seemed incredibly long. The pain in his eyes didn't subside. He could hear the hallway shift from dead silence to faint, distant chatter.

Eventually, the door was pushed open, and Aaron's voice came through. "Boss, I brought breakfast."

Was it morning already?

"Yeah," Lance replied, his voice painfully raspy. Aaron helped him sit up.

...

Nathalie hadn't slept well at all.

She kept waking up with a start, staring at the stark white ceiling, the smell of antiseptic lingering in the air. A sudden, unexplainable wave of sorrow washed over her.

When morning came, she went to wash up. The reflection in the mirror showed a weary, haggard face.

Knock, knock.

The bodyguard's voice sounded from outside. "Mrs. Adams, breakfast is here. It's in Mr. Adams' room. Would you like to eat there or have it brought here?"

Nathalie turned off the faucet, opened the door, and pointed toward Lance's room.

The bodyguard nodded. He glanced at her pale face, his lips moving as if he wanted to say something, but he hesitated and held his tongue.

Mr. Adams had forbidden him from speaking. Would his pay get docked if he talked?
