That night, Nathalie went back to her own room to sleep. The next morning, she boarded a flight to Southport.
At the airport, Bagot couldn't help but ask, "Nathalie, why didn't you eat with Lance?"
Nathalie typed with a blank expression, "I didn't have an appetite."
"Are you feeling sick?" Bagot asked, instantly worried.
Nathalie shook her head. Bagot rubbed his nose, looking at her as if he wanted to say more. Nathalie gave him a pointed look that clearly meant for him to just spit it out.
Bagot cleared his throat. "I'm just guessing here, but did you two have a fight? Lance was in a terrible mood this morning. I didn't even dare breathe during breakfast."
Nathalie paused, then let out a small smile. She typed, and the robotic voice replied, "We didn't fight. His mood swings are nothing new. Aren't you used to it by now?"
Bagot had no response to that.
Three hours later, the plane landed in Southport. The weather was warm and pleasant. Nathalie even felt a bit hot in her button-down shirt. She turned to Bagot.
Checking the files Aaron sent, Bagot said, "Elara Lane lives in a coastal fishing village. We'll have to drive there." Nathalie nodded. Bagot rented a car, and Nicol took the wheel, following the GPS. As they got closer, Nathalie's anxiety mounted.
"Lance, we've landed," Bagot said into his phone, reporting their status. "Nathalie is fine, she's right next to me. We're heading to the village now. Don't worry, Boss. I'm protecting her. Nothing's going to happen."
Whatever Lance said next made Bagot glance at Nathalie uncertainly. "Boss, are you serious?" After a pause, Bagot slowly turned to Nathalie. "Nathalie, uh... Lance wants you to make a sound. He just wants to know you're okay."
