Chapter 664
“I only used a mild sedative. It won’t cause any physical harm, I swear!”
Elara genuinely raised her hand to swear, looking at Nathalie with wide, doe-like eyes.
Nathalie nodded, then typed on her phone. The electronic voice spoke, “As long as the misunderstanding is cleared up, it’s fine.”
Elara broke into a smile. “You’re so sweet!”
Nicol, however, pressed on, “You hate the Winter family so much. What exactly did they do to you?” The smile vanished from Elara’s face instantly. Her hands clenched into fists, and her eyes grew red “Julian Winter blew up my parents.”
As her words dropped, a heavy silence settled over the basement.
Nicol pondered for a moment before asking, “What were your parents’ names?”
He paused, then added, “You know our information, so we need to know yours. Otherwise, how can we be sure you’re not someone from the Winter family in disguise, trying to win our trust?”
Elara bit her lip and said, “I’ll give you my files. You can verify everything yourselves.”
Then, remembering something, she asked, “By the way, how did you find out about me?”
Bagot spoke up this time. “Through a woman named Madonna.”
“Oh, Madonna!” Elara’s eyes lit up. “We served on an international rescue team together. Later, she and Uncle Lance’s contact went to another unit, and I returned to Southport. We still keep in touch occasionally!”
Saying that, she pulled out her phone and found a photo of her with Madonna, taken during their time on the rescue squad.
The background was harsh, but they were in white coats, smiling brightly.
Nicol examined the photo closely and nodded. “Alright, we understand.”
Elara said, “Let’s head up. We can talk more up there.”
The group walked out of the basement.
The middle-aged housekeeper, who was busy in the living room, saw Elara leading them out and asked, “Ellie, did you mistake them for someone else?”
Elara playfully stuck out her tongue. “Yeah. Thankfully I didn’t do anything drastic, or I’d feel terrible.
Bagot chimed in, “What more did you want to do? Drugging us and tying us up is already crossing the line!”
Elara shot him a glance but knew she was in the wrong, so she didn’t talk back.
Mrs. Gable smiled and said, “I’m so sorry, young man. She was just too anxious. She thought you
were here to hurt her and only acted out of self-defense. Please don’t hold it against her
