The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 67

Nathalie kept her face completely calm. “Why would I hold a grudge? The ten million already hit my account. I’m definitely not about to get upset over money.”

Camilla’s expression flickered with something hard to pin down. “Then… how about coming home for dinner tonight? You haven’t been back in ages.”

“No.” Nathalie didn’t even hesitate. “If I go back, it’ll just end in another fight. Better for everyone if I stay away.”

Camilla looked even more troubled. “You say you’re not upset, but it really does sound like you’re angry at us.”

Nathalie held her mother’s gaze for a moment, not flinching. “Mom, after everything that’s happened as the Blair family’s daughter… aren’t I allowed to be upset?”

Camilla had nothing to say to that.

Nathalie looked away, her eyes distant. “Let’s just… keep things peaceful on the surface. If we expect too much from each other, we’re only going to end up disappointed.”

She turned and slipped into the car without another word.

Camilla just stood there, eyes clouded, watching her go.

Nathalie didn’t bother glancing back. She spoke to Damaris, “Let’s go.”

They pulled away. After a few minutes, Damaris glanced over. “You alright?”

Nathalie shrugged, a bit of a smile on her lips. “I’ve gotten used to it.”

She’d started numbing herself the day she realized her parents would always choose Felice. After that, she just stopped wishing things would be different.

Damaris squeezed her hand gently, anxiety flickering in her eyes. “Come on, today’s a good day. You got your job back, there’s ten million more in your bank account… It’s time to celebrate, seriously.”

Nathalie nodded. “Okay, what’s the plan?”

Damaris’ grin turned sly. “Great food, good drinks… and a line-up of eight hot male models.”

Nathalie laughed. “I’m in.”

The two of them treated themselves to a big meal, then headed to a foot spa. As soon as they went in, Nathalie announced, “We want your best-looking masseurs.”

The spa service was next level. Before the masseurs even arrived, the staff brought in a platter of fresh fruit.

Nathalie and Damaris changed into comfy robes and sprawled out, snacking and chatting, until the door opened and two masseurs walked in.

Damaris nudged her. “Nathalie, quick, check them out. Time to pick your favorite.”

Nathalie glanced up. The instant she saw one of the men, her whole posture changed, tension flickering across her face.

“What are you doing here?”

Damaris looked up too, then practically yelped. “You jerk… since when do you work here on the side?”

Lance stood at the foot of Nathalie’s massage bed, white dress shirt half unbuttoned, jacket tucked over his shoulder. His eyes were fixed on her, cool and sharp.

“Just got the job,” he replied, his tone icy. “So… am I good enough for you, miss?”
