The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 66

“You!” Daniel’s face was stormy.

Damaris spoke up, almost amused, “Felice was the one picking fights the whole time, yet Nathalie’s the one getting slapped and yelled at? Daniel, you really play favorites.”

Daniel shot her a frosty glare. “And this has what to do with you?”

Damaris recoiled a little, mumbling, “So it’s a crime now to tell the truth? Way to be fair.”

Daniel was left speechless. He looked like he might pass out from sheer frustration.

Turning back to Nathalie, he gritted his teeth. “Fine. I was wrong last night. I shouldn’t have hit you. What else do you want?”

Nathalie arched her brow. “Well, my face hurts, my heart hurts, and I think I deserve some compensation.”

Daniel’s jaw tightened. “You’ll get it. Whatever compensation you want.”

“Ten million,” Nathalie replied, totally unfazed.

Daniel barely hesitated. “Fine. Ten million. This is over, and nobody brings it up again. Since it was just a misunderstanding, let’s drop the whole divorce thing. You think marriage is something you toss away that easily? Everyone should just calm down and behave for once.”

He stood and marched out, his expression still sour.

“Farr.” Lance called out toward the door.

Immediately, a tall bodyguard appeared, strode over, and hauled the kneeling maid out the room.

Now only Jasper’s quiet sobs filled the room. He kept calling for Lance, reaching out, wanting to be held.

Lance let out a sigh, scooping Jasper up into his arms. “Hey, tough guy, why are you always crying?”

Jasper clung to Lance, his fists wrapped in his shirt. “When I don’t see you, I get scared and sad.”

“You won’t have to.” Lance’s voice was gentler now. “Don’t listen to your mom. I’ll visit you all the time.”

Jasper blinked his big, teary eyes. “Really?”

“When have I ever lied to you?” Lance gave him a reassuring smile.

But Jasper just turned away, digging his grip tighter into Lance’s shirt, refusing to budge.

Camilla sighed in defeat. “Alright, you comfort him for now. I’ll go talk to Nathalie.”

Outside, Nathalie was just about to get in the car when she heard a familiar voice behind her.

She glanced at Damaris. “Go on and wait for me in the car. I’ll be quick.”

“Sure thing.”

Nathalie turned and saw Camilla walking over, her expression unreadable. “Is there something else you wanted?”

Camilla reached out, trying to touch Nathalie’s face. “Does it still hurt?”

Nathalie jerked away before she could make contact. “Mom, if you want to say something, just say it. I’m hungry and need to grab lunch.”

Camilla let out a long sigh. “Your dad really shouldn’t have laid a hand on you, especially in front of everyone, and he went way too far. But things are cleared up now, and he knows he was wrong. Nathalie, don’t hold this against him, okay?”
