The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 712

Chapter 712

Chapter 712

Elara’s eyes grew damp. She couldn’t stand seeing scenes like this; it always made her think of her own parents.

A tissue appeared in her line of sight. She turned to see a delicate, timid face.

Sophia handed her the tissue, her own eyes red as she asked, “Are you the doctor Nathalie brought back? You can cure her, right?”

Elara took the tissue, dabbing at her moist eyes. “There are no absolute guarantees in this world, but I’ll do my best.”

Sophia looked at her with utmost solemnity. “Then please, I’m begging you. You have to heal them!”

When she first walked in and saw the gauze wrapped around Lance’s eyes, her heart had practically shattered.

She had desperately wanted to run up and ask him what had happened, why his eyes were hurt, but she knew she didn’t have the right.

And soon after, when she learned Nathalie was injured too, her sorrow only deepened.

How long had it really been since they last saw each other?

How could such a massive tragedy have happened in that short time?

Elara nodded. “I’ll give it my all.”

After a while, the crying subsided. Afraid the emotional toll would be too much for her grandmother’s fragile health, Nathalie forced herself to stop With red-rimmed eyes, she shook her head at the older woman and pulled out her phone to type.

The robotic text-to-speech voice echoed, “Grandma, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. I’m not in pain or uncomfortable, I just can’t speak for now.”

Her grandmother’s heart ached even more. She stroked Nathalie’s cheek, wiping away her tears. “Nathalie, are you keeping things from me? You’re both injured at the same time-did something incredibly dangerous happen? Please, no more secrets. I don’t want to live every day on edge.”

Nathalie pressed her lips together. This was exactly what she had feared

most.

She didn’t want her grandmother knowing any of it.

Not the life-and-death crises she had faced.

Nor the fact that she was currently living under the shadow of a deadly

threat.

Lowering her gaze to hide her swirling thoughts, she typed, “It was just an accident, nothing dangerous. Grandma, don’t let your imagination run wild.”

She tilted her head up, flashing her grandmother a bright smile.

Grandma let out a helpless sigh. “Alright. You two just got back, so get some rest. I’m not leaving anymore/I’m staying right here to watch over your recovery.”

Then, her gaze shifted to Elara. “And who might this be?”

Lance spoke up, “This is Dr. Elara Lane, the specialist we hired. She performs acupuncture on us every day.”

“Good. Dr. Lane, I leave them in your capable hands,” Grandma said, her eyes still red as she looked at Elara.
