The Unwavering Heart That Broke (Nathalie and Lance) novel Chapter 726

Chapter 726

A chaotic storm of emotions raged inside Nathalie.

“What’s on your mind?” Elara’s concerned voice broke through the silence.

Nathalie snapped back to reality, looked at her friend, and shook her head.

“Auntie!”

Hearing their voices, Jasper turned toward them. The moment he saw Nathalie/his eyes it

up, and he reached his little arms out to her.

“Hold me?”

Swallowing the knot of complicated feelings in her throat, Nathalie walked over and gently lifted him into her arms.

Only then did it truly hit her just how small he was. He wasn’t even four

years old.

His understanding of the world was barely formed. He had only just learned to put his thoughts into words.

Yet he had already been subjected to so much darkness and cruelty.

The fact that he could still open his heart to anyone after living through that was an absolute miracle.

Staring down at his face-a face that looked strikingly similar to Jackson’s-the final shards of ice around Nathalie’s heart melted completely.

He was Jackson’s son.

He was innocent.

Felice was the architect of all this misery.

It wasn’t fair to project her pain onto an abused child.

Nathalie hugged him a little tighter.

Jasper loved being in her arms. It felt incredibly safe-much safer than his mother’s embraces ever did.

He tilted his head back. “Auntie, can you tell me a story?”

Nathalie offered a bittersweet smile and shook her head.

Madonna stepped in gently. “Jasper, your Auntie got hurt. She can’t speak right now.”

Jasper looked at Madonna, then back at Nathalie. He reached a tiny hand out to gently touch her throat.

Chapter 726

“Does it hurt?”

“If it hurts, I’ll blow on it to make it better.”

Leaning in, he puffed a soft breath of air against her neck, looking intensely serious.

Nathalie stiffened for a second, then shook her head.

“When will you get better?” he asked. “I want you to tell me stories.”

His mother had never read him a single one.

Madonna took him back into her arms. “When your Auntie is all better, she’ll tell you plenty of stories. But for now, how about Grandma tells you one? I know hundreds of them.”

“Really?”

“Of course! I’ll start right now…”

Aaron helped Lance out of the study. “Mrs. Adams, Boss needs his bandages changed.”

Nathalie gave a small nod and walked over, gently taking Lance’s arm.

Elara checked her watch and shot Lance a highly suspicious look.

It wasn’t time for his medication yet.

The guy was just desperate for his wife’s attention.

Pathetic.

That evening.
