Chapter 725
Startled by Madonna’s sudden outburst, Jasper shrank back. His large eyes darted around the room, as if searching for something—or rather, terrified of something.
Seeing his visceral reaction broke Madonna’s heart into a million pieces. She pulled him into her arms, her voice trembling. “Oh, Jasper. Don’t be scared. You’re at your Uncle Lance’s house. Nobody is going to hurt you here. Nobody can bully you. You’re safe.”
The sheer terror radiating off the child was undeniable.
Held securely in her warm embrace, Jasper’s fear slowly began to ebb. Nestled against her chest, he whispered, “Mom said it was our special secret.”
Madonna closed her eyes in agony. She could already guess what kind of
‘secret’ it was.
Jasper looked up at her pleadingly. “Grandma, please don’t tell Mom my secret, okay?”
“I won’t,” Madonna soothed softly. “Grandma will keep your secret forever.”
Seemingly relieved, Jasper continued. “Mom said that as long as I cried, Uncle Lance would come visit me. But when I couldn’t cry, she would hit
me…”
Madonna’s face drained of all color, freezing in absolute horror.
Just then, Nathalie and Elara stepped back into the room, hearing every single word.
The child’s voice was innocent and pure, but the reality of his words hit the women like a physical blow.
“Mom made me stay in the swimming pool, but I didn’t want to. The water
was so, so cold…” Jasper recounted his most traumatic memories. “But then Uncle Lance came. And every time Uncle Lance came over, Mom was super nice to me. So I always wanted him to visit.”
“Alright, alright… Grandma understands. You don’t have to talk about it anymore. Don’t even think about it,” Madonna sobbed, unable to bear hearing another word. She held him tighter. “Don’t be afraid. Grandma will protect you from now on. I promise no one will ever lay a hand on you again.”
“I miss Mom,” Jasper mumbled, hesitating before adding, “But I also don’t
miss her.”
A child’s heart was a mass of contradictions.
He craved the affection Felice showed him when others were around. In front of an audience, she was sickeningly sweet, and he clung to that warmth, wishing she would always be that way.
But behind closed doors, she was a monster. Whenever he reached out for a hug, she would shove him away, her face twisting with unfiltered disgust.
Jasper didn’t understand why. He just wanted his mother to hold him.
Wrapped in his grandmother’s arms, he finally felt genuine warmth. Hie knew he couldn’t walk, but maybe having this love meant being paralyzed
wasn’t so bad after all.
“That is completely psychotic…” Elara murmured, a cold chill running down her spine.
Having grown up surrounded by her parents’ unwavering love, she simply couldn’t fathom how any mother could torture her own flesh and blood.
Nathalie looked down, her hands balling into tight fists at her sides.
She thought back to all the times Felice had called Lance away, always using Jasper as the ultimate excuse.
