Chapter 731
The man on the other end of the line fell silent. A moment later, a careless laugh drifted through the receiver. “I’m a lone wolf. In my eyes, cash is the only thing that matters. If the deal isn’t worth my time, I’m not considering it.”
“Twenty million,” Lance countered, his voice dripping with cold indifference.
Neely scoffed. “What’s that supposed to mean? Are you trying to buy me off?”
Lance’s tone darkened. “Since you want to talk about money, let’s talk about money. Twen million dollars to find Bagot. Bring him back to me without a single scratch on him.”
“Let me think about it…” Neely drawled, deliberately stretching out his words.
“Thirty million.”
“Deal.”
“Hang up,” Lance ordered coldly.
Nathalie ended the call. Having listened to the entire exchange, her beautiful brows furrowed. She pulled out her phone, her fingers flying across the screen before the robotic female voice of her text-to-speech app broke the silence. “Who was that? You sound like yc know him well, but at the same time, you don’t.”
Lance turned his head slightly in her direction. “Just some greedy mercenary I met oversea: As long as the price is right, he’ll do anything.”
Nathalie offered a soft hum of acknowledgment, feeling entirely indifferent toward men like
that.
She quickly typed another question. “Where exactly did Bagot disappear? Could he have been taken by Lawrence?”
Penir ower
Lance’s voice dropped a fraction lower. “I’m not sure yet. We’ll have to wait for solid intel.”
Nathalie hesitated for

Bagot was supposed to lay low and wait for exact coordinates on Damaris before making a move. But who could have predicted that a single glance at that proof-of-life photo would send him flying off half-cocked to find her?
It was a massive world out there, filled with endless oceans and thousands of islands. How was he supposed to find her on his own?
Didn’t he ever stop to think about what would happen to his family if he got himself killed?
How would Damaris feel if she found out?
Bagot had been far too reckless.
Lance remained silent for a long moment before turning to face her. “Nathalie, we are a! exactly the same,’ he said softly. “When the person you care about most in this world is i danger, it is impossible to stay rational. Your only thought is to find them, to take the hit t them, to do whatever it takes so you never have to see them suffer.”
Nathalie froze. She stared at his face, at the thick white bandages wrapping his eyes.
Yet, for some inexplicable reason, she felt as though he were staring right through the ga gazing deeply and passionately into her soul.
She broke eye contact almost instinctively, only to realize a second later how foolish she being.
He was blind. Even if he had his sight, he couldn’t possibly see her through all those layer: bandages.
What was she hiding from?
Was she trying to hide the sudden, panicked fluttering of her own heart?
Nathalie didn’t dare dive into those thoughts. She simply tapped out a quick response. “I’m going to step out for a bit.”
Lance nodded. “Alright. Could you text Aaron for me on your way out? Tell him to come to t study.”
“Okay.”
When Aaron walked in, his expression was entirely grim.
As soon as the study door clicked shut, he got straight to the point. “I’ve already reached ou to Lawrence, but he isn’t responding.”
From the moment Lance was informed of Bagot’s disappearance, he had suspected Lawrence was behind it.
Bagot must have actually found Damaris, only to be intercepted by Lawrence’s men.
