Chapter 744
Nathalie nodded. She couldn’t refuse the request.
Watching the scene unfold, Elara whispered, “Nat, who is Camilla?”
Nathalie looked at her and typed on her phone, “Grandma’s daughter.”
Elara’s eyes widened. “Wait, doesn’t that make her your…”
Nathalie shook her head again and typed, “I’m adopted.”
Elara nodded in realization and dropped the subject.
Nathalie went upstairs, crossing paths with Carl as he stormed out of the study. She stepped aside, lowering her gaze to avoid any interaction.
Carl despised her, and she had no intention of provoking him.
Carl shot her an icy glare, scoffed, and hurried down the stairs to leave.
Nathalie knocked on the study door. Only after hearing Lance’s calm voice did she push it open and walk in.
Standing in the doorway, she typed on her phone, letting the robotic voice speak. “Camilla has passed away. Grandma wants to see her, and I’m going with her.”

Lance stood up instinctively. “I’ll go with you.”
‘No need.”
Nathalie typed quickly. “We’ll be right back. We’re just going to pay our final respects.”
Lance nodded. “Alright. I’ll have Nicol go with you.”
“Okay.”
Nathalie turned and went to change into a simple black outfit. By the time she came downstairs, Adelaide was already dressed in a black dress.

The older woman’s hands were shaking so badly she couldn’t manage her buttons. Nathalie stepped forward and gently fastened them for her.
Adelaide looked at her, pale and brimming with undeniable grief. “Nat, how could she just…”
Nathalie remained entirely stoic. She typed, “Grandma, she had been gravely ill for a long time. If so many things hadn’t gone wrong, she would have lived a good life.”
They had chosen their own tragic path.
Who else was there to blame?
Adelaide let out a heavy sigh and gripped Nathalie’s hand tightly.
Nicol drove them to the hospital.
Seeing Daniel again felt like stepping into another lifetime. The once-proud Chairman of The Blair Group new looked incredibly ancient and broken, his face lined with more wrinkles than Adelaide’s.
His spine was stooped as he stood at the entrance to the morgue.
The corridor was dead silent, making the sound of their approaching footsteps echo sharply.
He turned his head and saw Nathalie and Adelaide walking toward him.

Daniel straightened up slightly. “Mom. You’re here.”
Adelaide’s tears finally broke free. She grabbed his hands desperately. ‘Where is Camilla? Where is my… my daughter?”
Daniel swallowed hard. “Inside. She was… so regretful. She kept calling your name at the very end…”
He shifted his gaze to Nathalie. “And yours. She kept saying how sorry she was to you.”
Nathalie kept her eyes lowered, her eyelashes fluttering slightly, her pale

face completely unreadable.
Seeing her utter detachment, Daniel’s shoulders slumped further. He couldn’t hold her gaze any longer and quietly led them into the morgue.
