Chapter 743
Lance let out a low chuckle.
Carl’s expression darkened. “What are you laughing at?”
“Jasper is only three and a half. Aren’t you planning his future a little too early?” Lance’s tone was slow and deliberate. He couldn’t see the boiling rage on his father’s face, relying entirely on the man’s tone.
Carl immediately fired back, “I told you, this is what you owe your brother. You must make amends to him, and to his son.”
“Then you had better stick around to keep an eye on me.” Lance leaned back in his chair. “If you drop dead one day, I might just change my mind. And you won’t be around to stop me.”
“You!”
Carl slammed his hand against the desk, pointing a shaking finger at Lance. But as he looked at the thick white gauze wrapped around his son’s eyes, he swallowed the rest of his harsh words.
He simply scoffed. “Oh, I’ll live long enough. I’m going to see my grandson inherit The Adams Group with my own two eyes.”
“That would be for the best.”
Carl turned on his heel and stormed out.
The door slammed shut with a deafening crash.
The study quickly returned to a suffocating silence, so quiet that even the sound of breathing seemed to vanish.
Lance blindly reached for his pen, finding his place on the blank paper to resume practicing his handwriting.
But unlike his previously steady strokes, his grip now trembled, the ink dragging in messy, chaotic lines that no one was there to see.
Chapter 743
Adelaide seized Nathalie’s hands. Her wrinkled face was trembling, the color draining from her cheeks. Her lips quivered for a long time before she finally choked out, “Nat… your mother… Camilla has passed away.”
Nathalie’s expression froze. A ringing filled her ears as her breath caught in her throat. After a suspended moment, she gave a slow nod.
Camilla had been gravely ill for a long time. After everything that had happened, it was a miracle she had held on this long.
Hanging up the phone, Adelaide’s voice shook. “Nat, I need to go see her.”
Elara leaned in close to Nathalie’s ear, whispering, “Carl is terrifying. Is he going to skin that jerk alive?”
Nathalie glanced at ber, then typed on her phone. The robotic female voice chimed in, “You’re overthinking it. After all, he’s still his son.”
“But he looked at him like an enemy! What kind of father looks at his own child like that?” Elara pouted.
Nathalie lowered her gaze, her fingers pausing briefly before she typed another line. “It happens. My parents were far worse than him.”
