Nathalie glanced around the office and, when she saw Felice was nowhere in sight, finally let out a heavy breath. Just the thought of Felice set her on edge, and hearing her voice made Nathalie want to slap her. But right now, she couldn’t afford to lose her cool.
Felice had been baiting her on purpose, trying to get a reaction. If Nathalie snapped, Felice would just play the innocent victim again. She’d been pulling that move since they were kids.
Nathalie made up her mind then and there: she wasn’t going to let Felice ruin things for her, not this time. She needed this job, and nothing was going to get in her way.
Still, she couldn’t let it go completely.
She pulled out her phone and texted Madonna.
Nathalie: Mom, Lance got Felice a job at the voice acting company. He’s getting way too close to her.
Madonna: I’ll take care of it.
Nathalie smirked. Nobody hated Felice more than Madonna, and there’s no way she’d let Felice get cozy with Lance. If Lance arranged it, Madonna would make sure to tear it apart. It was just a matter of time before Felice got kicked out.
Knowing someone else was handling Felice made her feel a lot better. Nathalie popped her headphones back on and went right back to her work.

Madonna was in a foul mood. She didn’t waste any time and called the owner of the voice acting company.
Floyd picked up right away, sounding extra polite. “Madonna, what can I do for you?”
She skipped the small talk. “Did you hire someone named Felice?”
Floyd was the owner, but he didn’t keep up with every little detail. “I’m not sure. I’ll check and let you know.”
Madonna cut him off. “Find a reason to fire her.”
Floyd hesitated. “Is there a problem with her? Did something happen?”
When it got dark, Nathalie packed up and headed out. She didn’t expect rain, but it was coming down as she walked to the garage. Inside, she heard two voices she knew all too well.
Felice and Lance.
Felice was saying, “Lance, you really came all the way here to pick me up? If Nathalie sees us, she’ll get the wrong idea again.”
Lance’s answer sounded bored. “Just get in.”
Then came the sound of a car door closing.
Nathalie kept walking and caught Lance’s gaze through the driver’s window. She didn’t hide her scorn—she shot him the middle finger without a second thought.
Lance gripped the wheel, then suddenly opened his door and walked toward her.
Nathalie didn’t waste a second. She jumped in her car, locked the doors, started it, and peeled out. Her foot hit the gas so hard, she almost clipped him on the way out.
