The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 79

Nathalie had her eyes glued to the raw footage, trying to catch every little flicker of emotion in the character’s face. Out of nowhere, a cup of fruit tea slid into view. When she glanced up, Felice was standing there with that annoyingly familiar smirk.

Nathalie didn’t bother hiding her annoyance. “What do you want?”

Felice smiled, all sugary sweet. “I got this for you. Since we’re colleagues now, I figured it’s best for us to get along.”

She gave a dramatic little sigh. “Honestly, Lance is so unpredictable. He just handed me this job out of the blue. I never thought he’d do something like that. Nathalie, you really shouldn’t read too much into it.”

Nathalie shot her a look that could freeze over. “If you don’t want me to overthink, you could’ve just said no. Stop playing innocent when you’re the one who benefits. Do you even hear yourself?”

Felice’s big doe eyes widened, acting like she was the picture of innocence. “But I did say no. It was Lance who insisted. What was I supposed to do?”

Nathalie let out a sharp, humorless laugh. Was Felice actually trying to show off how much Lance cared about her?

Felice watched Nathalie’s reaction, then went on in this painfully gentle voice. “Don’t be mad, Nathalie. Lance is only nice to me because of Jasper. I’ll never forget how soft his eyes were when he looked at Jasper right after he was born. Honestly, it was like he was looking at his own child.”

Nathalie’s hands balled into fists. She couldn’t stop the flood of images from her mind—Lance in those photos, standing next to Felice in the delivery room. Her anger bubbled up, threatening to boil over.

She had to take a breath to steady herself. “If you’re so capable, why don’t you go convince him to divorce me? That way you two can finally be together.”

Felice gave another sigh, playing the victim. “You’ve got the wrong idea. There’s nothing between us. Lance loves you.”

Nathalie felt a headache rumbling in her skull. Staying here meant putting up with Felice’s constant games. She could force herself to endure for a little while, but forever? Impossible. The urge to wipe that smug look off Felice’s face was almost more than she could handle.

Addis noticed her silence. “You’ve just started and already there’s an issue? Ms. Blair, this is a workplace, not a playground. If you can't handle your personal drama, I'll have to find someone else to take over.”

Nathalie’s face went blank. She clenched her jaw and forced herself to answer. “I’ll take care of it.”

“Alright. You can go now,” Addis said, not looking at her.

Back at her desk, Nathalie saw that Felice had vanished. The fruit tea was still sitting there, radiating silent mockery. Without hesitating, she swept it up and dumped it right in the trash.
