The Unwavering Heart That Broke novel Chapter 95

As the streets outside started to look more and more familiar, Nathalie’s expression grew icy.

Her phone suddenly rang. She glanced down. Damaris.

“Hey.”

“Nathalie, your wedding ring is being auctioned off tomorrow night. It’s not too late to change your mind.” Damaris sounded hesitant, even though she’d already taken care of everything.

“I’m not going to change my mind,” Nathalie replied, her voice steady. “Just go ahead. Once the money comes in, take that trip you’ve been wanting. My treat.”

Damaris didn’t sound excited at all. “Are you sure about this? That ring… it was there for everything you two went through.”

Nathalie’s fingers curled up. She hadn’t really felt much before, but now her palm was burning.

She waited a moment, then said quietly, “Every time I see that ring, all I can think about is how foolish I’ve been all these years.”

On the other end, Damaris fell silent.

Nathalie forced a half-laugh. “It’s fine. Just get it done.”

“Alright.”

The call ended.

Beside her, the man’s gaze lingered on her. “Who are you talking about?”

Nathalie didn’t answer.

Lance clenched his jaw, his face twisting.

Did she really regret the eight years they’d spent together? Was she saying she regretted all of it? But she was the one who wrote him the love letter in the first place.

Soon, the car pulled up in front of Lumina Grand, but he didn’t unlock the door. His eyes were dark as he stared at her. “You’re honestly cold, Nathalie.”

She shot back, “Not as cold as you, Lance. Your heart’s practically a bottomless pit, you know. Always got space for one more.”

The sarcasm in her tone was impossible to miss.

Lance’s irritation only got worse.

She caught on immediately, color draining from her face. “What do you think you’re doing?”

The seatbelt pinned her back, and she fumbled to unbuckle it.

But Lance was already on her, pushing her gently against the seat.

“If the past is off-limits, then let’s talk about now. And right now, I think we should do what married couples are supposed to do,” he said softly.

He pinned her hands down to keep her from squirming, then leaned in and kissed her.

“You jerk!”

The car was small, the space between them even smaller. Nathalie could barely move. His breath was hot against her skin—his lips skimming over her cheek, her jaw, before finding her mouth.

Suddenly, the kiss changed, turning wild, almost desperate, like he needed to get something out, or maybe just wanted to lose himself a little.

It felt like he wanted to taste every bit of her, never letting go.
