The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 100

Watching the frail woman being wheeled out, a sudden lump formed in Chloe's throat.

It had only been seven days, yet Eleonora had lost so much weight!

She had received the call from Cloudrest Manor telling her Grandma was sick, and she had promised to visit right after the summit ended...

Overcome with guilt, Chloe fought back her tears and followed the gurney toward the private room.

Just then, a firm hand grabbed her arm.

Preston's face was grim.

"Chloe, Grandma can't handle any more stress right now. Don't bring up the divorce."

She didn't even look at him.

She yanked her arm free and marched straight into the hospital room without a backward glance.

When Eleonora finally fluttered her eyes open, her very first words were: "Where's Chloe? Is she here?"

Chloe hurried to her bedside, her voice tight.

"I'm right here, Grandma."

Eleonora's eyes filled with tears as she looked at her. Her frail, wrinkled hand reached out to gently stroke Chloe's cheek.

"My sweet Chloe... you've been through so much..."

She had seen all the news online over the past few days. The sheer anger and heartache she felt for the girl had nearly suffocated her.

Chloe never talked about her own family.

Eleonora had only known she came from an ordinary background, completely unaware of the immense hardships she had endured.

"I'm fine." Chloe forced a small, reassuring smile. "You just need to focus on getting better. Everything else is in the past. It's okay."

Eleonora's eyes brimmed with affection.

"It's alright. If they treat you poorly, you always have us. We are your family, and you are my real granddaughter."

She paused, her expression suddenly dimming as a dark thought crossed her mind.

"Chloe... was that letter true?

Are you and Preston... really getting a divorce?"

Left with no choice, he turned to leave. Before stepping through the doorway, he shot Chloe one last, penetrating look.

Chloe kept her head down, staying entirely silent.

Eleonora gently squeezed her hand, her eyes swirling with heartache.

"Chloe, I know this marriage is between the two of you, and it's not my place to interfere..."

"But I want you to think it through.

Preston might seem gentle, but ever since that incident years ago, he changed. He grew cold and detached.

He keeps everyone at a polite distance, except for you.

You're the only one he truly cares about. He really does love you."

"Grandma," Chloe said softly, finally looking up to interrupt her.

A faint, strained smile touched her lips.

"You're forgetting. He only married me to repay a debt."
