The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 114

"I'm sorry," Henry said, shaking his head with deep regret. "Dr. Macleod can only stay for two days at most. He has a strict schedule and must return on time."

He looked back at Chloe. "Ms. Reed, I hope you can understand. The other patient, Miss Cameron, suffered severe head trauma leading to critical nerve damage. If she isn't treated immediately, she could face permanent blindness or deafness."

Chloe's eye twitched. She spoke slowly, every word heavy.

"This Miss Cameron you mentioned..."

Henry explained, "Vantage Tech is quite famous, so you've probably heard of them? This morning, their CEO, Mr. Hayes, personally intercepted Dr. Macleod and essentially forced him to go. For him to go to such extreme lengths, that Miss Cameron must be his partner."

Recalling the confrontation, Henry looked visibly uncomfortable.

They called it an 'invitation,' but 'kidnapping' would have been a more accurate description.

But there was nothing they could do. Dr. Macleod was deeply interested in a specific research project at Vantage Tech, and under Preston's combination of threats and bribes, he eventually caved.

As Henry's words faded, the atmosphere in the ward plummeted below freezing.

Chloe's chest heaved violently. Even breathing felt like an agonizing chore.

Was this just a twisted coincidence? Or was it entirely deliberate?

All the hope and nervous anticipation she had harbored over the past twenty-four hours instantly ignited into a blazing inferno of rage, threatening to burn her alive.

She grabbed her phone and aggressively tapped on the long string of red missed calls from Preston.

The call connected instantly, but his voice was rushed.

"Chloe, I'm tied up right now. Whatever it is, we'll talk later."

Faintly, a weak female voice drifted through the line.

"Preston..."

The exact moment Jenna's voice registered, the call abruptly disconnected.

It felt as though a giant hand was crushing her heart, pushing the suffocating pressure to an absolute breaking point. It was enough to drive her mad.

Right then, Quentin's voice broke the silence.

"Chloe, rest here for a bit. I'll be right back."
