The closet doors swung open.
Watching Eleonora walk inside, Chloe felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of relief wash over her. It felt like liberation.
A part of her secretly hoped her grandmother would discover the truth about the impending divorce, so this absurd, twisted arrangement could finally come to an end.
But a second later, Eleonora's voice rang out. There was no shock, only approval.
"Well, not bad. It seems this stubborn boy's taste has finally improved."
Chloe froze and followed her inside.
She was greeted by a massive display of the latest season's luxury collections. From shoes and handbags to high-end watches, everything was meticulously arranged.
Even the vanity table was stocked with her favorite premium skincare brands.
Just then, Preston stepped up from behind and chuckled.
"Of course. I made sure to do my homework."
He locked eyes with Chloe.
Chloe's face remained blank, completely ignoring his gaze.
After dinner, since Eleonora had not fully recovered her health, she couldn't stay out too late.
Before leaving, she gently held Chloe's hand.
Chloe offered a soft smile. "What is it, Grandma?"
The older woman's expression was heavy. She could easily tell that Chloe was unhappy.
"Chloe," she said, pressing a premium bank card into her hand. "Take this."
Chloe quickly tried to hand it back. "Grandma, what are you doing? I can't accept this."
But Eleonora stubbornly pushed it back. "Chloe, just consider it doing me a favor and take it. I want to help you, but I don't know how. You're getting back into your career and need a nest egg. It's just a small gesture from me."
"What are you two talking about?"
Preston's voice suddenly chimed in from behind.
Chloe stopped resisting. She accepted the card, though she had zero intention of ever using a cent of it.
She pressed her lips together and whispered, "Thank you, Grandma."
Eleonora gave her a deeply complex look before getting into the car.
