Wendy reluctantly shuffled away, constantly glancing back over her shoulder.
She craned her neck toward the master hallway, trying to see if Chloe was awake. Just as she looked up, she spotted Chloe walking down the corridor.
She immediately rushed over, lowering her voice urgently. "Mrs. Hayes! You need to go check on things!"
Jenna caught sight of Chloe as well. Instinctively, she leaned closer to Preston, practically pressing herself against his arm.
Preston frowned, asking her, "Why were you discharged from the hospital so suddenly?"
Jenna leaned back slightly, putting on the airs of the lady of the house, and shot a provocative glare at Chloe.
"Preston, you paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for help. I figured taking care of one patient is the same as taking care of two. We shouldn't let that money go to waste."
Before Chloe could even respond, a figure stomped out of the kitchen in a blind rage.
Wendy yelled furiously, "Are you out of your mind? You expect our Mrs. Hayes to wait on you?!"
"When our Mrs. Hayes takes care of Mr. Hayes, that's romance between a married couple! Who the hell are you? Have you no shame?!"
She stood her ground, pointing aggressively at Jenna's nose.
Jenna was so stunned by the verbal assault that her jaw dropped. With Preston right there, she opened and closed her mouth, unable to form a single coherent comeback.
"You... you..."
Right then, Preston's voice cut through the room.
"Enough."
His icy gaze locked onto Wendy. "Apologize to Ms. Cameron."
Wendy stared in pure disbelief, completely overwhelmed with grievance. She raised her voice.
"Boss, she was the one disrespecting Mrs. Hayes first..."
Preston's eyes darkened. "If you disrespect Ms. Cameron again, you can pack your bags and leave right now."
Wendy stiffened in terror. Not daring to say another word, she choked out a resentful, reluctant apology.
"I'm... I'm sorry."
He had an urgent report for Preston, but catching sight of Jenna, he swallowed his words, looking visibly conflicted.
Preston grew irritated. "Just say it."
Ken finally spoke up. "Boss, the prison approved the visitation request for today..."
The last time Ken went to see Jeremiah Gordon, the man had refused to say a single word, insisting he would only speak if Preston came in person.
Preston had then instructed Ken to reapply for visitation using his own name.
Upon hearing this, Jenna's face drained of color.
"Preston, didn't you promise me you wouldn't go see my brother?"
Preston looked at her. "Jenna, it's fine. He's caused so much trouble to get my attention, maybe he actually has something important to tell me."
"No, that's not it..." Jenna tried to protest, but Chloe had already noticed the cracks in her facade and cut in sharply.
"Jenna Cameron, is he really your biological brother? You seem utterly terrified of Preston going to see him."
