The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 135

The box was completely opened.

The Lace and Fox Tail Lingerie Set sat inside, fully exposed for the world to see.

Preston's body stiffened imperceptibly. He slowly lifted his gaze to Chloe, his lips pressed into a tight line.

"..."

After a beat of heavy silence, he spoke, his voice husky.

"If you need to, I can cooperate."

Chloe pulled her hand back, curling it into a tight fist. She took a deep breath and turned to walk out.

But she had only taken two steps when a strong arm wrapped around her waist, yanking her flush against him.

"Chloe."

Preston's voice murmured right by her ear, thick with implication.

She shoved him hard. "Get off me."

"Why so shy?"

He arched an eyebrow and stepped into her space, pinning her firmly against the cold wall.

"You can ask anything of me. It's perfectly normal. It's not like I'd say no."

He paused, his eyes flicking to the box behind her as his smirk widened. "Besides, everything is already prepared. It'd be a shame to let it go to waste, wouldn't it?"

"Get out!"

A vein popped in Chloe's forehead, and she stomped down hard on his foot.

While he flinched, she shoved him away and practically sprinted out of the room.

Preston watched her flee, a faint smirk playing on his lips. Then, his gaze drifted back to the box, his eyes clouding with complex emotion.

In the hallway, Wendy was pacing back and forth, eavesdropping on the room.

Seeing Chloe storm out, she hurried over. "Why are you out so soon?"

"Move!" Chloe snapped, her tone dripping with ice.

She practically tore through the first floor, then rushed up to the second, checking every single room. Her frown deepened with every empty space.

"Where is Yuri?"

"Oh, you mean that dog?" Wendy replied. "Sent to the groomer's for a bath."

Chloe stopped dead in her tracks and whipped around.

A thought seemed to cross his mind, shifting his expression as he continued.

"If you just want to get out and work, I actually need a new secretary..."

"Could you just shut up?"

Chloe stood up, cutting him off completely.

Preston stiffened. "Chloe, I just don't want to see you struggle. Does everything I say have to make you angry?"

He tried to explain himself. "You haven't held a job in a long time. You don't know how exhausting regular work is. If you're just looking for something to do, isn't coming to Vantage Corp the best option? What's wrong with that?"

Just then, the doorbell rang, saving her from the conversation.

Wendy went to open it. It was the groomer dropping Yuri off.

Chloe grabbed her bag, took the pet carrier, and marched straight for the door—only to nearly collide with Eleonora Hayes.

She froze. "Grandma? What are you doing here?"

Eleonora smiled warmly. "I decided to come stay for a few days, Chloe."

"Were you heading out? Is this a bad time for me to visit?"
