"Grandma, I'm full. I'll head upstairs."
Preston watched her walk away, his face turning grim.
A creeping sensation of losing total control washed over him.
In the past, even if Chloe was mad, she never held a grudge this long.
No... before Jenna came back from abroad, she had never even been angry with him at all.
While he was lost in thought, Eleonora's voice broke the silence.
"Preston, is there something you'd like to tell me?"
He snapped out of it. "What?"
Eleonora's gaze was calm and incredibly focused as she stared him down.
"I mean, are you and Chloe hiding something from me?"
Preston faltered for a split second before chuckling, waving it off smoothly.
"What could Chloe and I possibly hide from you?"
"Don't worry. She's just mad at me about what happened a while ago."
"She saw me bring Dr. Macleod in to examine Jenna, and she thought it meant I prioritized Jenna. But how could I let a doctor examine my wife when I've never even worked with him before?"
"But since it upset her, I'll just bring him back for her. Once she cools off, I'll explain everything properly."
He said it all so casually, as if it didn't matter.
Eleonora's face, however, only grew more serious. "I don't think she's just angry. She isn't the type to throw a tantrum over nothing. Do you honestly think she'd go this far over a minor slight?"
"Preston, if there ever comes a day when Chloe is truly determined to divorce you, I will stand by her."
"Because I view her as my own granddaughter, completely separate from her status as your wife."
Preston stiffened. But he quickly forced his relaxed facade back into place, draping an arm around his grandmother's shoulders.
"Grandma, why are you worrying about this lately? Chloe and I are perfectly fine. Why would she ever divorce me?"
