The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 156

Chaotic silhouettes took turns flashing through the suffocating darkness.

A teenage boy with white hair smirked, a chilling cruelty on his lips. "The mistress's son? But Preston, I'm older than you, and I was by Father's side long before you ever existed."

The furious roar of a middle-aged man followed immediately. "Enough, Preston! Stop making a scene! Throw another tantrum and you can get the hell out of the Hayes family with your mother!"

A devastating concoction of grief and rage exploded in his chest. He threw a frantic punch, only for the image to violently shift to a weeping middle-aged woman.

"Mom..."

"Mom, I'll take you away from here..."

But in the next second, the woman violently coughed up a pool of blood, her tear-filled eyes staring wildly into his.

"No!"

Preston lunged forward, but his fingertips missed her by a fraction of an inch, forcing him to watch helplessly as she plummeted into the abyss.

Lies, betrayal, agony...

The entire world was swallowed by a suffocating gray fog. Sludge wrapped around him like iron chains, dragging him down into an endless, lightless void.

But right then, a gentle female voice drifted through the dark.

She was rambling, chattering away about trivial little things, but every word felt like a firefly, slowly gathering into a beacon of light.

"Preston, I made you a sandwich. Make sure you eat your breakfast on time!"

"Oops, sorry! I completely forgot you can't handle spicy food. I didn't mean to put that chili sauce in the sandwich. Oh no, you're actually crying..."

"How was breakfast today? I'm pretty great, huh?"

"Your eyes are super swollen. You must have been up late studying again, right? Here's a heated eye mask. Keep pushing through, high school senior!"

Preston dragged his brutally heavy body forward, inching agonizingly toward the blurry silhouette of the girl.

She was right there, yet no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't see her face.

"Who are you?"

The girl suddenly laughed. "I am..."

The dream violently snapped shut, the final words scattering into the wind.

"Preston! Preston!"
