Jenna flashed a sarcastic smirk. "Chloe, didn't you just say the seats aren't assigned? Since you already stood up, you're not going to let anyone else sit? You're being totally unreasonable. Do you really think you own this chair?"
With that, she tossed her purse down and unabashedly took the seat.
Right at that moment, every head in the room turned toward the entrance as Dr. Liana Sharpe slowly walked onto the stage.
She noticed the commotion on their side and let her gaze rest briefly on Chloe.
But just as quickly, she looked away, her expression completely unreadable.
The organizer grew frantic, urgently shooing Chloe. "Are you leaving or not? If you keep disrupting the conference, I'm calling security."
Not wanting to delay the symposium, Chloe held her tongue, turned around, and walked all the way to the very back, dropping into the last empty seat in the room.
Right beside her, a heavy gaze immediately locked onto her.
"Chloe?"
Preston looked surprised for a second, but then his tone turned into a mocking drawl.
"Where's Quentin?" he scoffed. "He just stood by and watched someone steal your seat?"
Chloe hadn't expected Preston to be sitting right next to her.
She quietly shifted away, putting as much distance between them as possible.
"Are you so used to being vile that you actually feel superior about it now?"
Preston replied flatly, "At the very least, if you were by my side, I would never let anyone bully you."
Chloe let out a cold laugh and didn't bother replying.
Just then, Preston's phone buzzed. He glanced down at the notification and let out a harsh sneer.
"Hah. No wonder. He's too busy keeping his fiancée company to care about you."
He looked sharply at Chloe. "Quentin Shaw has a fiancée. Did you know that?"
Chloe ignored him, her face as completely undisturbed as if he hadn't spoken at all.
Preston suddenly smirked. "So you knew the whole time?"
Dr. Sharpe said coolly, "Go ahead."
Basking in what she assumed were the envious stares of the entire crowd, Jenna plastered on her sweetest smile and practically shouted:
"Hello, Dr. Sharpe! My name is Jenna Cameron, and I am your biggest fan!"
"Wow, you look incredibly young, and your aura is absolutely stunning! I was just wondering what your daily skincare routine is? You are just so beautiful!"
In an instant, dead silence fell over the entire hall.
Feeling the shift in the room's energy, Jenna felt a massive surge of triumph, and her grin widened.
Sure, everyone else was dying to ask Dr. Sharpe boring academic questions, but no one had the guts to publicly shower her with compliments!
This was called standing out from the crowd! She was absolutely going to leave a lasting impression!
Dr. Sharpe's gaze landed on Jenna. Behind her glasses, her eyes were so flat and devoid of emotion that absolutely no one could guess what she was thinking.
She spoke calmly.
