The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 163

[Ms. Reed, shall we meet to discuss the surgery arrangements?]

An address followed.

[I'll be waiting for you tonight.]

His pitch-black profile picture looked like a dangerous, swirling abyss.

Chloe frowned deeply and immediately deleted him from her WhatsApp.

After a moment of thought, she decided to send Preston a text.

[Are you free right now? I need to explain something to you.]

This was a matter of principle.

She had harbored a deep-seated disgust for Julian Sterling for over a decade, despite never having met him.

She didn't want Preston to misunderstand her involvement in this.

A dozen minutes ticked by with no reply.

That afternoon, she went to the conference room to meet Dr. Sharpe as scheduled, but her mind was elsewhere as she worked.

When she finished her tasks, the other staff members murmured in awe, shooting her impressed glances.

"Ms. Reed, which agency are you with? How have we never seen you around before?"

Yet, when the document was placed in front of Dr. Sharpe, she simply spoke.

"Chloe."

Her tone was flat, carrying a heavy weight. "It seems calling you Chloe is truly the only appropriate name for you now."

Chloe's eyelashes fluttered as she balled her hands into fists.

Dr. Sharpe looked at her. "I think the reason you can't reach Caroline's level isn't that you've lost your talent or aren't working hard enough."

"It's because your mind is in chaos."

"Chloe, if you've really made up your mind, you need to clean up your personal messes as soon as possible."

"I'll be announcing my assistant in three days, and that person might not be you."

"Do you understand?"

Her eyes were devoid of emotion, but Chloe could clearly see the disappointment pooling within them.

She lowered her gaze. "I'll handle it as soon as possible."

After leaving the conference room, there was still no reply from Preston.

Chloe called Ken.

Over the phone, Ken's voice sounded somewhat strained.

He hesitated for a moment before finally admitting that Preston was at the office.

Ken swiped his access card for Chloe and cautiously pushed open the heavy office doors.

Just as Chloe was about to walk in, he suddenly called out to her.

"Mrs. Hayes..."

Chloe looked back. "What is it?"

"N-nothing."

The massive office was completely dark.

Neon lights from the city bled through the glass windows, casting fractured, dead shadows across the polished marble floor.

Chloe stepped inside, calling out tentatively, "Preston?"

In the next second, two silhouettes huddled close together on the leather sofa turned their heads toward her in the gloom.

Caught in the cold moonlight, Jenna's messy hair and bare shoulders were on full display as she pressed herself tightly against Preston.

It was glaringly obvious what the two had just been doing.

Seeing it was Chloe, she didn't show a shred of panic. Instead, she snapped impatiently.

"Who let you in?! Get out of here!"

Standing at the doorway, Ken froze, entirely dumbstruck by the scene.
