What was going on?
When did Miss Cameron go in there?
Preston had been acting incredibly strange all night.
Ken had honestly thought that since Chloe was taking the rare initiative to seek him out, her appearance would surely lift the boss's mood.
He never imagined his good intentions would backfire so spectacularly!
Feeling as if he had just committed an unforgivable sin, he looked at Chloe in sheer panic.
"Mrs. Hayes, I'm so sorry, please calm down, there must be a misunderstanding..."
"It's fine," Chloe said. Her voice was flat, devoid of any discernible emotion.
"I just came to say..."
Preston raised his eyes to look at her.
His face was expressionless, his gaze cold and detached, as if he were looking at a complete stranger.
The moment their eyes met, a sudden wave of nausea hit Chloe's stomach, threatening to upend her calm facade.
The disgust was overwhelming.
She found the words dying on her tongue. "Forget it. It doesn't matter anymore."
Chloe turned on her heel and walked away.
Her pace quickened with every step. If she stayed a second longer, she really was going to throw up.
Just as she was about to step into the elevator, a forceful grip clamped around her wrist, slamming her hard against the wall.
Pain erupted across her back from the impact.
Chloe winced, and in the next second, she met a pair of dark, bottomless eyes.
"What do you think this place is?"
"A hotel you can just check in and out of whenever you please?"
The heavy scent of alcohol washed over her.
The corners of Preston's eyes were flushed red. His usually refined, handsome face was painted with the flush of intoxication, carrying a heavy, obsessive darkness as his gaze pinned her in place.
"What do you think I am..."
"Preston." Chloe stood perfectly still, undisguised disgust pooling in her cold eyes.
"I didn't mean to interrupt you. If you wanted me to stick around and cheer you on, I'm sorry, but I'm not a freak like you two!"
