"Preston!"
Jenna hurried over and wrapped her arms around Preston's arm.
Preston instinctively shook her off, shooting her a glacial glare.
Jenna's heart skipped a beat, and her eyes immediately welled with tears.
"Preston, are you blaming me? I was just worried about you, so I went in to check. How was I supposed to know Chloe would jump to conclusions?"
"We didn't even do anything, and she still twisted it. It just proves she never trusted you to begin with. Only dirty minds see dirty things!"
Preston didn't say a word, but his eyes grew infinitely darker.
He immediately pulled out his phone, called Ken, and rattled off a license plate number.
"Track this car down."
...
A bucket of freezing water crashed over her head.
The biting, bone-chilling wetness jolted Chloe awake.
But her body felt impossibly heavy, refusing to obey her commands. Her head throbbed so intensely she couldn't string a single thought together.
"Why did you grab me... do you want money..."
"Or..."
She mumbled out the words purely on instinct.
"Heh."
A cold scoff echoed through the darkness.
"Why did we grab you?"
"Stop acting dumb. You know exactly what you did. How dare you try to steal what's mine? You should really take a look in the mirror!"
The unfamiliar female voice was spoiled and laced with fury.
"You're going to sit here and think long and hard about your actions. I'll let you out when you learn to stop seducing other women's men!"
Chloe winced, forcing out her words with everything she had.
"Explain yourself, there has to be a misunderstanding..."
The only response she got was the heavy slam of the door shutting.
Then, dead silence swallowed the room.
After an unknown amount of time, Chloe's consciousness slowly returned.
She desperately scanned her surroundings. As her eyes adjusted to the pitch black, she realized she was in a room piled high with cardboard boxes.
The renovations looked new, but there were no windows. It had to be a storage room.
