The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 170

After all, forcing her to swallow the insult and back down was the easiest way to make the problem disappear.

It had been a very long time since anyone had cared this much about how she felt.

In a split second, a lump formed in her throat, her eyes burning with unshed tears.

"I'm fine... Thank you, Mrs. Shaw, Mr. Shaw..."

They didn't hang up until they were absolutely certain she was doing alright.

The moment the call ended, she got a notification from the police station asking her to come in immediately.

Chloe stepped into the elevator and hit the button for the ground floor. Then, remembering something, she quickly changed the floor.

She knocked lightly on the door of the unit below hers.

Quentin opened the door almost instantly.

Chloe jumped slightly. "Are you..."

Quentin was fully dressed and ready to go, looking as though he had been standing right by the door waiting for her.

He gave a faint smile. "I got the call too. Let's go."

The two quickly arrived at the police station. The entire time they were redoing their statements, Quentin's phone blew up non-stop.

"You go handle your business," Chloe said. "I need to go see Dr. Sharpe anyway."

Quentin hung up his call. "I'll give you a ride."

His phone immediately started ringing again.

"No, it's fine," Chloe insisted. "Dr. Sharpe's office is super close to here. I can just walk."

With that, she waved him off.

"Seriously, go."

She hadn't been walking for long when a car suddenly pulled up beside her.

Chloe turned her head. "I told you I didn't..."

The word "need" died in her throat the second she saw the man's face.

Preston watched her expression shift, a sudden, burning irritation rising in his chest.

"Disappointed it's me? Who were you expecting?"

Chloe ignored him, turning on her heel to walk away.

"Chloe!"

Preston got out of the car and reached out to grab her arm.
