The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 186

"...Uh," Larry stammered, taken aback. "Are you here for a divorce consultation too?"

Preston's expression darkened even further, his gaze turning utterly lethal.

"Ken, deal with him."

Without another word, Preston spun on his heel and walked away.

Larry was bewildered. "Huh? Deal with what?"

He tried to chase after him but was immediately blocked.

Ken looked at him dead-pan. "Sir, are you familiar with Hendricks & Associates? My boss has arranged a position for you there. Please pack your bags and leave Sterling Bay today."

Larry laughed out loud. "Scammers these days really think they can..."

The next second, an official letter of introduction was slapped into his hand.

"..."

Holy crap. He had just hit the jackpot!

...

Chloe had planned to just go to work.

Tomorrow was the day the new assistant would be announced, and Dr. Liana Sharpe was refusing to see anyone today.

However, she still handed Chloe an assignment: attending an exhibition to handle the on-site translations.

It wasn't until Chloe arrived that she realized the event was being hosted at The Lumina Grand Hotel, the oldest and most prestigious hotel in Sterling Bay.

And the event itself was a global culinary exhibition.

She immediately understood Dr. Sharpe's underlying kindness, and a warm feeling bloomed in her chest.

She took the job seriously, thoroughly studying the origins of every dish on display and actively constructing the most precise English translations in her mind.

While she was deeply engrossed in her work, someone gently tapped her on the shoulder.

Chloe turned around.

The woman behind her broke into a bright, surprised smile. "Chloe! It really is you!"

"I thought you looked familiar from across the room, but I was so scared I had the wrong person! It's been years, but you're still as gorgeous and recognizable as ever!"

Belle's eyes sparkled as she rattled off the details like she had memorized them.

"Other people didn't notice, but I did. You used to sneak glances at him all the time. And his classroom was on the upper floor, but he always went out of his way to walk past ours. He was definitely trying to bump into you!"

"And the two of you—whether it was looks or height—you were an absolute power couple!"

"Plus, remember that time he protected you on the track field? I asked around later. His class was in the middle of a math lecture. Why would he suddenly be on the field? He must have been watching you and came specifically to save you!"

She rambled on excitedly until she noticed Chloe's dead silence. Her smile dropped, and she stiffened.

"I'm sorry..."

Chloe gave a faint smile. "It's fine. The food's here, let's eat."

Belle mentally kicked herself, guiltily picking up her fork.

She had been so caught up romanticizing Preston's knight-in-shining-armor moment that she'd completely forgotten it was also the darkest, most traumatic memory Chloe possessed.

Just as she lowered her head, ready to eat in silence, she caught sight of a figure on the floor below out of the corner of her eye. She slammed her hands on the table and bolted upright.

"What the hell! Are you kidding me right now?!"
