The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 227

The towering mountains in the distance were capped with thick snow, and the icy lake shone like a mirror, giving off a rugged, majestic aura.

Chloe followed the path Henry had pointed out.

Whether it was because of the season or due to Dr. Macleod's special status, the resort was nearly deserted.

The only sound was the howling winter wind. It was so empty it bordered on desolate.

When she finally reached the red maple tree Henry had mentioned, there was indeed a figure standing beneath it.

"Hello..."

The person turned around, but it wasn't Dr. Macleod at all. It was a young man.

He was tall and lean, the brim of his hat pulled low. His eyes were wrapped in white gauze, revealing only a thin, pale jaw.

Chloe frowned. "I'm sorry. I have the wrong person."

The man smiled faintly. "No problem."

Just as Chloe was about to leave, he spoke again. "You're looking for Dr. Macleod, aren't you?"

"Did he just leave?" Chloe asked.

The man didn't answer. Instead, he said, "Could you guide me over to the cabins?"

The blood-red maple leaves trembled lightly in the cold mist rising from a nearby hot spring, creating an inexplicably eerie atmosphere.

Chloe's guard immediately went up. "Sorry, I'm busy."

With that, she turned to walk away.

Suddenly, the man let out an awkward chuckle.

"Shouldn't you help me?"

Chloe instinctively felt that something was very wrong.

"Get back at Preston?" Julian's lips twitched upward. "Why would you think that? He's my brother. We're family."

"Even though you and Preston are getting a divorce, you damaged your hearing to save him. And in return, he stripped away practically your only chance to get treated by Dr. Macleod."

"As his brother, isn't it perfectly normal for me to use my own resources to make it up to you? If anything, your constant hostility toward me is what's abnormal."

Chloe didn't want to waste another second on him and turned to leave.

Julian wasn't in a rush. He simply drawled, "So you're giving up? You don't plan on fixing your ears?"

"Or could it be that you never actually wanted a divorce at all? Maybe you're just using this to manipulate Preston into kicking Jenna out?"

"After all, as long as your hearing isn't cured, he's trapped taking responsibility for you every single day."

Chloe halted. "Are you always this much of a hypocrite? Or do you just lack any basic self-awareness?"

Her voice dripped with naked sarcasm. "Do you honestly think I would ever sink to the level of working with a psycho like you?"
