The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 228

"Or do you really think those pathetic little perks you're dangling are enough to tempt me? Who gave you that kind of confidence? Jenna?"

The smile on Julian's face froze entirely.

He reached up and yanked the gauze off his face, revealing a pair of chilling, predatory eyes.

"Tsk."

"Chloe, how did you guess? I didn't peg you to be this clever."

"Alright, you're right. I shouldn't have compared you to Jenna. But I couldn't dig up much about your past, so I didn't know enough about you. My apologies."

Chloe said nothing.

The moment Julian tracked her down, she knew he had undoubtedly approached Jenna as well.

After all, his goal was always the same.

He wanted to destroy everything Preston cared about.

Julian dropped the fake smile and spoke candidly.

"Then let's make a serious deal. How about it?"

"All you have to do is nod, and I will have Dr. Macleod perform your surgery immediately."

Chloe asked flatly, "What kind of deal?"

Julian smirked. "Come with me to a certain place."

"Of course, you'll also have to play along with a few things I do, say a few lines, and..."

He didn't finish his sentence, his lips curving upward.

"In short, ruining Preston is a goal we both share, isn't it?"

"After everything he's put you through, after he so casually trampled on your feelings, don't you want to see him begging on his hands and knees?"

Chloe mirrored his smirk. "Since it's a business transaction, I should probably understand your motives and stance first, right?"

"Is it because you're terrified of his ruthless competence? Are you afraid that one day he'll snatch back the inheritance you so shadily secured? Or are you just twisted by plain old jealousy, desperate to claw your way out of his shadow?"

"..." The faint amusement that had just surfaced on Julian's face solidified once again.

"Ms. Reed, you are incredibly bold."

Chloe cursed under her breath and sprinted away without looking back.

She rushed back the way she came. Halfway down the path, she ran straight into Henry, who was pacing nervously back and forth.

Seeing her unharmed, he let out a huge breath of relief and jogged over to her.

"Ms. Reed!"

Chloe stared at him.

Under the scrutiny of those cold amber eyes, Henry felt an unprecedented weight of guilt.

"I..."

The words died on his lips, and he swallowed hard, looking torn.

"Ms. Reed, if you really want the professor to operate on you, that man truly can help you make it happen."

Chloe ignored the suggestion and stared him down.

"Tell me what's going on."
