The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 239

The next morning, Chloe woke up incredibly early and booked the very first flight back home.

Right before boarding, her phone lit up with a call from Preston.

As soon as she answered, his warm, smooth voice flowed through the speaker—a jarring contrast to the frigid tone he had used in the cabin just the night before.

"Still not awake? I've been knocking on your door forever."

"Today we're heading to Niagara Falls, and we'll spend the night up in The Rocky Mountains..."

He rattled off the itinerary with genuinely enthusiastic energy.

Chloe didn't even realize that these were all the exact spots she used to circle in her geography textbook back in high school. She cut him off with a flat tone.

"Preston, yesterday's penalty fee is already in your account."

"I'm heading back home. I'll wait for you to process the divorce papers."

"..." Preston fell into a dead silence on the other end of the line.

The airport PA system blared the final boarding call. Without waiting for a response, Chloe hung up the phone and walked straight onto the plane.

Quentin and Thea were heading back with her as well.

The moment she stepped off the plane, her phone pinged with a missed call.

It was Henry.

Chloe dialed back immediately. The man on the other end sounded practically hysterical with gratitude.

"Ms. Reed, I have absolutely no idea how I can ever repay you... Please don't worry, the surgery is in my hands. I swear I'll contact you within the month."

"Once your hearing is fully restored, I'm taking my sister far away from here. We'll change our names and disappear completely."

Chloe replied, "Rest assured. I'll make certain she's perfectly safe until the surgery is complete."

Henry exchanged a few more words with Thea before ending the call.

Taking in the completely unfamiliar surroundings, Thea looked a little dazed.

But it wasn't out of fear or confusion. It was an overwhelming surge of vibrant, new hope.

As she passed a trash can, she didn't hesitate for a single second, tossing the pocket watch she had been clenching tightly into the bin.

Chloe looked taken aback. "That watch..."

Thea took a deep, shaky breath, her eyes swirling with a tidal wave of chaotic emotions. "It belonged to Silas Thorne."

"The fact that my brother managed to get his hands on it proves that the miserable bastard is finally dead."

She cracked a broken smile as fresh tears spilled over her cheeks. "Which means... I finally get to be free. I finally get to actually live."

Chloe wrapped her in a gentle hug.

Thea hurriedly wiped her tears away. She wanted to ask if Chloe knew the "Jenna Cameron" those two men were gossiping about on the ship last night.

While in the chopper, she hadn't understood a word of the Chinese being spoken, but she had definitely caught the exact same phonetic pronunciation.

So, were they talking about the exact same Jenna Cameron she had worked with?

Gabriel sounded incredibly surprised. "Ms. Reed, as thrilled as I am to represent you, I usually hope my clients never actually need my services."

Chloe cut straight to the chase. "Mr. White, you claim to have a flawless winning streak. Is that fact or fiction?"

Gabriel's playful tone instantly evaporated. "What kind of trouble are we looking at?"

Chloe enunciated every single syllable. "I'm filing a divorce lawsuit."

"..."

Chloe challenged, "Don't have the guts to take the case?"

Gabriel cleared his throat. "No..."

He covered his mouth and took a deep, dramatic breath. "I just suddenly got the urge to pop open a bottle of champagne to celebrate."

Exactly one hour later.

Preston finally called her back. His voice was freezing cold, completely saturated with thinly veiled rage.

"Chloe, the lawsuit just landed on my desk. You've truly outdone yourself!"

Chloe blinked, genuinely impressed. She hadn't expected Gabriel to work that fast.

"Is there a problem?" she asked smoothly.

Preston sneered over the line. "You think you can just delay our agreement whenever you feel like it, and I'm supposed to unconditionally roll over and play along? Ms. Reed, don't you think you're acting a little like a dictator?"
