The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 240

Chloe asked bluntly, "When are you flying back?"

"I have no idea," Preston mocked. "Kandaria is absolutely stunning. Someone once circled all the tourist spots in her textbook, swearing she'd see them with her own two eyes one day..."

"Shouldn't I stick around for a few more days and soak it all in before coming home?"

Chloe replied dryly, "Suit yourself. Get ready for bankruptcy, then."

Preston chuckled, his tone dripping with sheer arrogance. "It's all going to end up in your pockets anyway."

His complete and utter flippancy seriously started to grate on her nerves.

She hung up the phone with a sharp click.

Exactly two minutes later, her mobile banking app sent a notification—a transfer of millions of dollars had just cleared.

Preston shot over a text: [Here's an advance for the next five days.]

Chloe casually accepted the transfer.

If he wanted to throw massive amounts of money around, she was more than happy to oblige.

Only an idiot would turn down free cash.

Preston's name popped up on the caller ID again.

Dropping a fortune had somehow miraculously lifted his mood. There was a distinct smirk in his voice.

"Are you going to drop the lawsuit now?"

"No," Chloe answered flatly.

"..." The smirk instantly died in Preston's throat.

"The penalty fees are purely for the emotional distress you've caused by dodging our appointment at the Civil Affairs Bureau."

"Nowhere in the contract does it stipulate that I'm legally barred from hiring a lawyer to sue you for divorce in the meantime."

Before he could even get a word out, Chloe hung up on him again.

Before he could blow up her phone a third time, she smoothly flipped her phone to 'Do Not Disturb'.

Outside her window, a sprawling stretch of fire-red clouds blazed across the sunset, looking like a vivid, heavy-stroked oil painting.

Chloe scooped up Yuri, playfully rubbing her nose against the puppy's soft belly.

"Missed me over the last few days? I'm taking you out for dinner tonight, and we're getting the most expensive thing on the menu!"

"In a few more days, you won't be able to get dog food this good anymore..."

Yuri let out a tiny, clueless whine, pressing his little head affectionately against her chest.

But if you could actually endure the brutal pressure, the rewards were absolutely unparalleled anywhere else.

Belle kept rattling on, "Even after all that humiliation, she still flat-out refused to leave! She was clinging on for dear life, whining about how she's Caroline Monet's biggest fan and refusing to step foot out the door until she met her idol!"

A mocking smile crept onto Chloe's lips. She seamlessly pivoted the topic.

"How is the investigation going? When are you planning to fly back?"

The moment the investigation was brought up, Belle sounded extremely frustrated.

"Chloe, you were completely right. Someone incredibly powerful is suppressing all of Jenna's dirty secrets behind the scenes. Digging it up has been an absolute nightmare."

"Do you think... the person covering for her is Preston?"

Chloe's immediate instinct was to say he wouldn't do something like that. But the second the thought crossed her mind, she felt overwhelmingly ridiculous.

She had never truly known the real Preston.

Or perhaps, Preston had never once allowed her to see his true self.

Hearing nothing but silence on the other end, Belle quickly added,

"But don't stress! Thankfully, we've had Quentin's help. So we're still managing to make some solid progress."
