The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 25

Chloe's heart violently skipped a beat.

Preston simply replied, "Verify it first."

He hung up the phone and pushed the agreement toward her.

"Sign it, and I'll take you back."

Chloe slapped the papers away. "And if I don't? If I refuse to help you cover up for Jenna Cameron, are you going to trap me on this island even if my mother is dying? Preston, are you trying to imprison me?!"

A wave crashed against the shore, soaking the crisp white papers and dragging them into the dark sea.

Preston suppressed his rising temper, his handsome face turning rigid. "Stop bringing Jenna into this. I'm not forcing you to sign. But your mother and your cousin might need my help!"

Chloe shook with rage, completely stripped of words.

She knew he was right. Even if she refused to sign, he had the power to protect Jenna anyway.

But the memory of Jenna's arrogant smirk outside the burning building, the violent threats from those thugs, and the sheer desperation in Preston's eyes when he protected Jenna...

It was a sickening injustice she couldn't swallow!

"Preston, people who do wrong need to pay the price! Leon cut corners, and he should face the consequences. As for Jenna, she belongs in a courtroom!"

Preston stared her down, his tone calm but absolute. "I hope you can keep that same energy."

Just then, Ken called back.

Preston picked up, listened for a few seconds, and his expression darkened. "I'll be right there. Arrange for her transfer immediately, and get the best medical team ready for surgery..."

Seeing his reaction, Chloe's heart shot into her throat. Her mind went completely blank.

Was Linda... actually in danger?

No, it couldn't be!

This was just another one of her mother's classic manipulation tactics. She was just trying to guilt-trip Chloe and force Preston to bail Leon out!

But the more she thought about it, the more panicked she became, her body shaking involuntarily.
