The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 26

Linda reached out, desperately trying to grab Chloe's hand.

"Chloe, you said you were getting a divorce, and I support that! But your cousin was taken by the police. Once I'm dead, who in this world is going to genuinely treat you well? Chloe, I'm begging you..."

Even though she had anticipated this exact speech, Chloe's chest still constricted, a dull, suffocating ache spreading through her ribs.

She took a step back, dodging Linda's outstretched hand.

"You're not dying. Do the surgery first, we can talk about the rest later."

Linda's eyes went terrifyingly bloodshot as her frail body violently convulsed with coughs.

"Chloe! If you just ask Mr. Hayes, your cousin will walk out of there without a scratch! Why are you being so stubborn? Do I have to get on my knees and beg you?!"

Suddenly, she started gasping for air, her face turning a horrific shade of purple as if she were taking her last breaths.

Doctors flooded into the room, but Linda locked her hands around the bedrails, refusing to be moved.

"I'm not going! Just let me die! Let me die!"

"Chloe! The biggest mistake I ever made was marrying your father! You're just as ruthless as he was!"

Even though Chloe had drawn boundaries with Linda countless times in her mind, watching her mother wail in agony still twisted the knife in her heart.

She clenched her fists so hard her knuckles turned white.

Right then, Preston stepped forward, offering the settlement agreement and a pen. "Chloe, sign it. It doesn't hurt you in any way."

Chloe glared at the document, wishing she could burn it to ashes with her eyes.

All the chaos and torment of the past few days boiled down to this one piece of paper!

If she didn't sign, she'd remain a thorn in their perfect love story, an obstacle they absolutely had to crush...

"Fine. I'll sign."

She took a deep breath and looked up at Preston. "But you have to agree to one unconditional demand."

Preston seemed to anticipate this. "As long as it has nothing to do with Jenna, I agree to anything."

Chloe's eyelashes fluttered as she let out a hollow laugh. "Don't worry, Mr. Hayes. I'd never dare threaten your precious Jenna."
