The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 318

"It's fine," Chloe waved him off, rain dripping off the ends of her hair.

She forced a polite smile. "I can order a ride myself. Thank you, Mr. Sylvain."

Lucian looked at her for a long moment before nodding. "Alright. Stay safe."

"Will do."

The tinted window rolled up, and the luxury car glided silently into the storm. Its red taillights quickly bled into the torrential rain, fading into a hazy glow before disappearing completely.

The massive parking lot was dead silent, save for the deafening roar of the rain.

It was just him and her.

Preston remained rooted by his car, watching the entire exchange unfold.

He didn't take a single step toward her.

He was waiting for her to break. Waiting for her to come begging.

Chloe looked down and opened her rideshare app.

Surge pricing.

Double surge pricing.

No drivers accepted the ride.

The resort had been built deep in the mountains for maximum exclusivity, meaning security and access were intensely restricted.

Anyone who could afford to stay here had a personal chauffeur. No rideshare driver in their right mind was going to brave a treacherous mountain pass in a flash flood just to pick up a single fare.

Chloe stared at the endless loading circle on her screen, her fingertips turning bone-white from the cold.

She bumped the premium up again.

Still nothing.

Preston just watched her.

She could easily picture the exact look of triumph on his face.

He genuinely believed that without him, her life would crumble into a pathetic, desperate mess. He thought she would hit rock bottom, shatter, and have no choice but to crawl back into his arms.

That delusional arrogance made Chloe feel utterly sick.

Taking a deep breath, she shoved her phone into her pocket, turned around, and walked straight into the resort lobby to borrow an umbrella.

A blaring car horn shattered his sentence.

A sleek sedan had pulled up just inches away. Quentin shoved the door open and stepped out into the rain with an umbrella.

He caught Chloe by the shoulders and shot Preston an icy glare. "Let go of her."

The moment Preston saw his face, pure, homicidal rage twisted his features.

Without a single word, he threw a brutal, bone-crushing punch right at Quentin's jaw.

"You dare show your face to me?!"

"You're the bastard who stole my wife, aren't you?!"

"Quentin!" Chloe screamed in sheer panic, immediately rushing to shield Quentin.

She spun on Preston, her voice tearing through the storm. "Are you out of your mind?! Why are you in Veritas?! No one wants you here!"

Preston's eyelashes trembled, staring at her in absolute disbelief. "Chloe..."

Quentin gently pulled Chloe back. "I'm fine."

He tilted the umbrella over her head, guiding her securely toward the passenger side. "Let's go. You're soaked. You'll catch a cold."
