That rapid-fire string of elite technical jargon would have completely lost any average person. Even repeating it would have been near impossible.
Not to mention the perspective was incredibly sharp, unique, and profoundly insightful.
Preston felt a dizzying wave of disorientation.
The woman standing in front of him was undeniably Chloe, the Chloe he had always known...
No, that wasn't right at all.
He couldn't quite put his finger on what felt so jarringly different.
Just then, Jenna's voice shattered the heavy, surreal atmosphere.
"Dr. Sharpe, where is Caroline Monet?"
Liana, completely annoyed by the interruption, frowned sharply. "Get out."
Jenna refused to move, stomping her foot like a spoiled child. "But you promised me! You said I'd get to meet Caroline on this trip to The Republic of Veritas!"
If it hadn't been for that promise, why else would she have risked flying halfway across the world?
Liana slowly looked up at her.
Jenna flinched under the sheer, predatory intensity of that gaze, instinctively shrinking back.
"Dr. Sharpe, when are you going to take me to see Caroline? Even if you won't let me meet her, at least give me her contact info! I'm absolutely obsessed with her. My family and I are her biggest fans!"
As she prattled on, she kept casting smug, sidelong glances at Chloe.
Her tone was deliberately dramatic, dripping with obvious vanity.
She wanted to make sure Chloe fully grasped exactly how close she was to Dr. Sharpe, and the caliber of powerful people they associated with.
This ultra-elite circle wasn't something a nobody could ever break into.
Chloe didn't even bother batting an eyelash.
She merely offered Liana a respectful nod, her voice perfectly even. "Dr. Sharpe, I'll leave you to your business. I'm heading out."
"Mhm," Liana replied.
Once Chloe vanished through the doors, Liana slowly turned her attention back to Jenna. She rubbed her temples, as if suppressing a massive headache.
"You really adore Caroline that much?"
Jenna nodded eagerly, her voice sickeningly sweet. "Of course I do!"
The corner of Liana's mouth tipped up in a strange, unreadable smirk—an expression that didn't quite reach her eyes.
"Oh, you'll meet her."
Jenna practically jumped for joy, spinning around to share the amazing news with Preston.
Right at that moment, Preston suddenly spoke.
"Dr. Sharpe, is Chloe... Caroline Monet?"
The air in the room instantly turned to lead.
Liana's eyes narrowed dangerously, pinning Preston with a razor-sharp glare.
Jenna froze for a second before bursting into hysterical, gut-busting laughter.
