"Mr. Sylvain, won't this cause trouble for you?" Chloe asked.
Lucian interrupted her with a faint, casual tone. "Have you decided what you're treating me to?"
Chloe sighed helplessly. "I might have to find you some divine ambrosia."
They had only met twice, and he had already done her a massive favor.
She felt a little overwhelmed by his kindness.
Lucian chuckled at her words and reached out to lightly tap her forehead.
"Alright, stop frowning..."
It wasn't until he met Chloe's wide eyes that he realized his gesture was entirely too familiar.
He paused, smoothly withdrawing his hand as a flicker of regret crossed his eyes.
Perhaps because she was around the same age as Isabella, he had unconsciously treated her like a younger sibling, momentarily losing his boundaries.
"This was my own decision. At most, I was a bit reckless. You don't need to overthink it."
Lucian took a long stride, taking the lead.
Chloe didn't dwell on it either.
As she caught up, she pulled out her phone to call Lydia.
No one answered.
Just as she was about to leave a message, someone brushing past suddenly bumped into her.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry..." the person muttered frantically.
Lucian steadied Chloe. "Are you okay?"
Chloe shook her head, but froze when she recognized the person.
They had only been apart for a few hours, but Lydia looked like a wreck.
She was deathly pale, her hair a mess, and her eyes were strikingly red, a clear sign she had been crying.
Frowning, Chloe immediately stepped forward. "Lydia, what's wrong?"
Lydia shrank back on instinct, only pausing when she realized it was Chloe.
"I'm fine... Sorry, I'm just exhausted, so I need to head back first. I was just about to text you..."
Her eyes darted nervously, and her gait was awkward. Something was definitely wrong.
