About an hour later, Eleonora had peacefully drifted off to sleep on the chaise lounge.
Gazing at her serene face, Chloe quietly draped a cashmere blanket over her.
Meanwhile, out in the main hall, Jenna and Percival were still deeply engrossed in their lively conversation.
Fueled by the alcohol he had consumed earlier, Percival's voice began to echo through the space.
Suddenly, he let out a heavy, furious sigh. "Preston, you are an absolute fool!"
Sensing where this was going, Preston immediately tried to cut him off. "Grandfather, you're drunk. Let me help you upstairs."
Next to them, Jenna's ears instantly perked up.
Riding the aggressive wave of liquid courage, Percival pushed him away. "What exactly does she think the Hayes family is? Some target for her filthy schemes?"
"How could you be stupid enough to fall into her trap? And that mother of hers... Ugh! They are absolute vultures, repulsive to the core!"
Preston desperately tried to silence him again. "Grandfather, stop... It had nothing to do with her..."
"How could it have nothing to do with her? Do you honestly believe a pure flower can bloom in a pile of rotting trash? Trash breeds trash, Preston! Don't let her play you for a fool!"
His booming voice carried perfectly, every vicious syllable piercing straight into Chloe's right ear.
Even without a name, anyone with a pulse knew exactly who he was talking about!
Chloe's hands clenched into tight fists, her chest boiling with sheer, unadulterated fury.
What on earth did they think she had done? What horrific crime was she supposedly guilty of?
Chloe abruptly stood up and marched straight toward the main hall.
"Preston, thank God it's not too late. You need to divorce her and marry Jenna... I know your heart belongs to Jenna. I refuse to watch you suffer like this for the rest of your life!"
"As for that woman, since all she wanted was money, just write her a check and throw her out! Get rid of her so we don't have to be disgusted by her presence every day!"
Percival's absolute hatred for Chloe had completely festered. He despised everything about her but had kept his mouth shut to maintain appearances.
But now, with Jenna back and enough alcohol in his system, all his suppressed venom finally exploded.
