Over time, after several moves, that diary had been lost forever.
Now, as that overwhelming sense of suffocating despair washed over her once more, she had to find another outlet.
Only this time, it was about leaving.

The next day.
As soon as Chloe stepped out of her room, a maid approached her, looking as though she was struggling to speak.
Chloe spoke first. "What's wrong?"
The maid looked conflicted. "Mrs. Hayes, I've been thinking about this for a while, and I feel like I should tell you..."
After a long preamble, she lowered her voice. "This morning, I saw Mr. Hayes coming out of Miss Cameron's room. I know they are just friends, but they're still a man and a woman. It's just too..."
Chloe's face paled a fraction.
Even though they were getting divorced in seven days, they were still legally married.
Preston's blatant disregard proved he didn't respect her or their marriage at all!
Even though her heart was already shattered, she still felt an uncontrollable wave of sadness. She couldn't understand how someone could suddenly become such a stranger.
She steadied herself, keeping her tone even. "I understand. Thank you."
The maid looked bewildered by her reaction. "Aren't you angry, Mrs. Hayes?"
Thinking back on everything Preston had done recently, Chloe replied flatly, "He's probably just in heat."
Preston, who was walking down the hallway, caught her words. His expression instantly darkened, and he swallowed whatever he had been about to say.
