The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 78

Jenna snapped, her deepest insecurity triggered. "Jeremiah! Why are you asking so many damn questions?"

Jeremiah couldn't shake the creeping unease. "Preston's relationship with that woman is obviously complicated. It's only a matter of time before he realizes what we pulled online. What if he—"

"What if he does?" Jenna cut him off with a dismissive scoff. "All we did was upload a video stating our version of the facts. If the netizens want to curse her out, or if the locals get riled up and decide to take matters into their own hands, what does that have to do with us?"

She rolled her eyes at him. "Seriously, Jeremiah, when did you turn into such a coward? Relax. Preston doesn't even love that bitch!"

Jeremiah's tense shoulders finally dropped a fraction. The reassurance worked, but deep down, he couldn't entirely shake the visceral terror he had felt when he saw the way Preston looked at Chloe.

Jenna grabbed her designer handbag, flashing a vicious, triumphant smirk. "If anyone should be trembling in fear right now, it's them. Come on, let's head back. I want to see if she still has the guts to threaten you with a lawsuit now. I bet you anything she's ready to drop to her knees and beg for mercy!"

Without waiting for a response, she dragged Jeremiah back out the door.

They pulled up to the property at the exact same moment Chloe's group stepped out of Quentin's vehicle.

The moment Gabriel spotted them, his friendly demeanor vanished. "You actually have the sheer nerve to show your faces here again? Get the hell out!"

Jenna wasn't intimidated in the slightest. She offered a cold, condescending sneer. "Chloe, you're a smart girl. You should be able to read the room by now."

She crossed her arms. "The power of massive capital wealth isn't something a few average citizens can fight against. Now, I know you don't care if your own life goes up in flames, but what about your little entourage? An elite executive and a fancy city lawyer? Are you really going to drag your friends down into the mud until they're despised by the entire country?"

Chloe stared at her with dead eyes. "Get to the point."

Jenna's smile widened into something utterly sickening. "It's simple. Drop to your knees right now, apologize to my brother, and hand over that hidden camera footage. If you do, I might consider making a few phone calls to have the trending articles scrubbed from the internet and spare you the public execution..."

Jeremiah's face twisted into an ugly grimace. Forced to back down, he yelled, "What about her assaulting my sister a second ago?! Is that not a crime?"

Gabriel blinked innocently. "Huh? What sister getting hit? Oh, weird, my camera must have missed that entirely. You shouldn't make up such wild accusations, Chief Gordon!"

Jeremiah was shaking with apoplectic rage. "You... you hypocrite! You call yourself a prestigious lawyer? You're a disgrace to the profession!"

Gabriel flashed a brilliant smile. "Hey, if bottom-feeding scum like you get to walk the earth, why shouldn't I be allowed to practice law?"

With her cheek swelling and nowhere to vent her explosive fury, Jenna pointed a trembling finger at Chloe.

"Fine! If you want to do this the hard way, then you just wait! By the time you finally come crawling to me on your hands and knees, I won't even give you the time of day!"
