Chloe stormed off, her fury palpable. Jeremiah glared before scrambling after her. Gabriel shook his fist at their retreating backs. "You're the ones who should be waiting! We'll see who comes crawling back!"
Chloe caught the flailing lawyer's arm. "Mr. White, please, calm down."
"I can't calm down! Every time I think about..."
Quentin thought of what Chloe had retrieved. His face turned uncharacteristically dark, his knuckles turning white. More than a thirst for revenge, a suffocating wave of despair and heartache weighed on them. The atmosphere grew heavy. They quickly divided the tasks, burying themselves in gathering evidence and contacting the press. Soon, Chloe's phone erupted. The moment she answered, a barrage of vile curses spilled out.
"You selfish bitch! Your whole family should rot in hell! Just you wait, karma is coming!"
As soon as she hung up, another call flooded in. Her phone buzzed relentlessly. In the chaos, Preston's name flashed across the screen. Quentin snatched the phone and powered it off. Suddenly, Gabriel sprinted out of his car, shouting.
"I found out! No wonder the smear campaign spread so fast. No wonder they got so many verified accounts to share it. The Hayes family is bankrolling this entire operation!"
Unaware of Chloe's marriage, he seethed. "I used to respect the Hayes family. A century-old legacy, and they pull a stunt this despicable? It's sickening!"
Quentin tried to stop him. "That's enough."
"It's fine," Chloe said, her voice numbly flat. "I figured as much."
When it came to Jenna, Preston spared no expense. He didn't care about right or wrong; whoever he wanted to protect was automatically right. After a grueling day, night had completely fallen. The cemetery visitors had long departed. Chloe sat quietly by the grave, arranging the floral tributes in the dark.
