The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 98

Fury burning in her chest, Chloe walked faster and faster.

She didn't even notice the extravagantly romantic setup arranged meticulously across the beach.

Preston's features were tight with exhaustion. He didn't say a word to stop her, simply striding ahead to yank open the passenger door of his car.

Chloe acted as if he were completely invisible, attempting to walk right past him.

"Chloe!"

Preston's face darkened drastically. He shot his hand out, clamping down hard on her wrist. "It's late. You won't be able to get a cab out here. Stop risking your own safety just to prove a point!"

Chloe fought wildly against his grip.

The next second, her world spun. He hauled her into his arms, carrying her bridal-style, and unceremoniously dumped her into the passenger seat.

Before she could move, his towering frame leaned in, caging her against the leather.

"Stop being so angry. Please?"

He was clearly suppressing a tidal wave of frustration, forcing his voice into a gravelly whisper.

Chloe glared up at him, her eyes practically shooting daggers. "If you touch me tonight, I will press charges for sexual assault. I swear to God I will do it!"

Preston's expression instantly turned murderous. His Adam's apple bobbed as he ground his teeth together.

"Fine. Have it your way, Chloe."

He pulled back and slammed the door.

The locks engaged instantly.

Preston stared at her through the windshield, a highly dangerous, predatory gleam churning in his dark eyes.

Every instinct in Chloe's body screamed on high alert. "What are you doing?"

He just let out a cold, humorless scoff, walked around the hood, and got into the driver's seat, firing up the engine.

"I'm not that much of an animal."

"Give me an address. Where are we going?"

There was zero chance Chloe was going to give him her new address. She stared straight ahead.

"Drop me off at the next intersection. I'll get a cab."

Preston's face turned thunderous. He stared at her in absolute disbelief.

"You're treating me like a threat?"

Chloe didn't answer.

"What happened? How is Grandma?" Preston demanded, sprinting down the hall.

Percival Hayes' face was twisted in a frightening scowl. His furious, hateful eyes locked directly onto Chloe.

"Why don't you ask her what she did?!"

Instantly, every single pair of eyes in the hallway whipped toward Chloe, heavy with burning accusation and judgment.

Chloe frowned in utter confusion. "Grandpa, what do you mean? I've been..."

Percival didn't give her a second to defend herself. "Save your breath! You know exactly what you did!"

"If Eleonora doesn't make it, I will make your life a living hell!"

Suddenly, Preston stepped directly in front of her, shielding her from his grandfather's wrath.

"Chloe would never do anything to hurt Grandma. Until we know exactly what happened, Grandpa, I suggest you calm down."

"You—!"

Time and time again, Preston was directly defying him to protect this woman. Percival's disgust and absolute hatred for Chloe finally hit a breaking point.

Preston shot a lethal, freezing glare at Eleonora's personal maid. Terrified, the woman immediately began to stammer an explanation.

"It... it was like this..."
