The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 100

Winona scoffed. "Why should I listen to you? And I’m not lying, I’m telling the truth. Tallulah is the one responsible. It’s not my problem if you refuse to believe it."

Yulen's anger flared hotter. "Winona, that's enough. I've already cleaned up the mess you made. What more do you want from me? I think I've been more than good to you. Do you honestly think you could have afforded to cover those losses without me?"

"I didn't ask for your help," Winona said mockingly. "And were you really helping me? I already told you, I had nothing to do with it."

Yulen felt like Winona had become impossible to reason with. If she stayed on the project team, there was no telling what other trouble she'd cause, which would reflect poorly on Locke Group.

"You're resigning. Right now. This is not up for discussion," he commanded.

Finding the whole situation absurd, Winona stared him down without flinching. "And if I don't? I told you, my life is none of your business. From now on, you just worry about Tallulah and stay the hell away from me."

"You want to cut ties with me?" he snarled. "Don't even think about it, Winona!"

She was done talking. She turned to leave, but Yulen grabbed her arm forcefully, dragging her into the fire escape stairwell to continue the 'discussion.'

"Let go of me!" Winona cried, struggling against his grip.

The more she fought, the tighter he squeezed her wrist. She gasped as a sharp pain shot up her arm, but Yulen didn't seem to notice. He just glared at her, trying to dominate her into submission.

Still weak from her hospital stay, Winona was easily overpowered. He pinned her against the wall, and the color slowly drained from her face. Yulen either didn’t notice or didn’t care; he was too focused on forcing her to listen.

"Listen to me, Winona," he said, his voice dangerously low. "You need to get this straight. I’m your husband, and your life is not something you get to handle on your own!"

Tears of rage and helplessness streamed down her face. Why? She wasn't his property!

Just then, Yulen's phone rang. He finally released her to pull the device from his pocket.

Stefan’s expression was complicated. He hesitated for a moment before saying gently, "The baby's gone."

A roaring sound filled Winona's ears, as if her head were about to explode.

"Get some rest," Stefan said softly, patting her hand. "Don't think too much."

She heard nothing. A wave of despair so complete it was physical washed over her, swallowing her whole. The people, the sounds, the room around her—all of it faded away.

Winona gently touched her belly, her lips trembling. The child she had so eagerly awaited was gone.

And in her heart, Yulen was the one who had cost them their child!
