Mr. Maddox smiled at her. “Winona, why don’t you help Stefan to the lounge so he can sober up a bit?”
Winona nodded and helped Stefan out of the private room and into the adjacent lounge. Before she could even close the door, Stefan suddenly leaned in and kissed her.
She froze, every muscle tensing. Her mind went blank as his lips moved against hers, tender yet demanding. A tingling sensation spread through her entire body. It was the first time she had ever felt so completely swept away. Even with Yulen, she had never felt a passion like this.
“Stefan…” she murmured against his shoulder. “We can’t…”
He released her lips but didn’t let her go. Supporting her as her legs felt weak, he guided her to the sofa and gently pulled her onto his lap. Her nose and the corners of her eyes were tinged with red, making her fair face look all the more vulnerable and enchanting.
Winona tried to pull away, but his large hand held her firmly in place. The position was incredibly intimate, and she felt her entire body flush as red as a lobster.
Stefan draped his jacket over her and whispered in her ear, “Help me, Winona.”
“What?” Her voice trembled, not understanding what he meant. Surely he wasn't asking her to… here?
A wave of regret washed over her for coming with him. This Stefan was filled with a primal, masculine aggression, as if he wanted to devour her whole.
His voice was husky. “This was a setup, a blind date I couldn't refuse. That’s why I had to bring you.”
She saw the exhaustion in his eyes, and the strength in her hands, which were pressed against his shoulders, slowly dissipated. A shadow passed by the door.
“Can you take the lead?” Stefan whispered.
“What?” Winona's mind was in a complete jumble.
