The sight of Yulen’s tender, affectionate expression made Winona’s skin crawl. He was practically glued to Tallulah’s side, yet he still had the nerve to flirt with her!
Tallulah, noticing that Yulen only had eyes for Winona, bristled with resentment. She shot Winona a sharp glare, her desire to secure the Powell Group project intensifying. She had to beat Winona today and prove to Yulen once and for all who was the better woman for him.
Just then, Victor arrived, and the group started to move toward him. But as the elevator doors slid open, Stefan and Ophelia emerged, capturing everyone’s attention.
Tallulah seized the opportunity, declaring loudly for Winona’s benefit, “Mr. Goddard and Ms. Powell are a true match made in heaven. It just goes to show, there are no real-life fairy tales about Cinderellas marrying princes. In reality, the prince ends up with the princess.”
Winona knew the barb was aimed at her humble origins, but she simply offered a cool smile, refusing to engage with the taunt.
Yulen, disliking Tallulah’s tone, muttered, “That’s enough.”
Tallulah pouted and huffed in annoyance.
Mr. Falconer and Mr. Sutton, however, silently disagreed with Tallulah’s assessment. While marrying within one’s social class was important, exceptions existed. A beautiful and capable woman like Winona would be a treasure for any wealthy family. If their own sons were of a suitable age, they would have already tried to play matchmaker.
Winona guessed that Stefan and Ophelia were on a date and decided against approaching them.
As Victor walked over, Yulen, Tallulah, and the others greeted him with eager smiles.
Victor’s response was tepid; he gave them a curt nod before his face broke into a genuine smile for the other two. “Mr. Goddard, Ms. Powell.”
Stefan nodded in acknowledgment. His gaze swept past Victor and landed on Winona standing with Yulen, a strange, inexplicable fire igniting within him.
Ophelia smiled at Victor. “Stefan and I are just here for some fun today. Why don’t you join us, Victor?”
