The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 173

Winona stepped aside to let him in and poured him a glass of water.

Stefan set the bags down and glanced over to where the puppy, Biscuit, was comfortably snuggled in a blanket on the sofa, not even bothering to look his way. Stefan’s eyebrow twitched. He’d put in all this effort and money, and this was the thanks he got.

“Mr. Goddard, have some water.”

He turned to see Winona dressed in a modest white pajama set. Her hair was still damp, and her face was flushed from the steam of her shower, making her look utterly alluring. He felt his throat tighten.

After taking a sip of water, he said, “If Biscuit gives you any trouble, I’ll have him shipped to the capital and let Roxana deal with him herself.”

Winona chuckled. “He’s been very good, actually. He’s just so small and frail. A sudden trip to another city might make him sick. It’s better if I look after him for a while.”

“Then thank you, Ms. Jowett,” Stefan said. He didn’t linger, turning to leave her home shortly after.

The next morning, as Winona stepped out of the elevator, she saw Yulen and Tallulah, along with Stefan and Director Nolan Archer.

Winona nodded a greeting to the group. The collaborative project between Goddard Group, Mr. Harper's lab, and Locke Group was now two months in, and it was time for a progress report. Nolan, believing Winona had made the most significant contributions and originated many of the core ideas, had asked her to lead the presentation.

When Tallulah learned of Nolan's decision, she was consumed with jealousy, wishing she could tear Winona down and take her place.

Once in the conference room, Winona opened her laptop to prepare, but her heart sank. Her presentation script and slides were gone, completely deleted.

She froze for a second, then looked up and met Tallulah’s triumphant gaze. All eyes in the office were on her. If she admitted now that her materials weren't ready, they would doubt her competence, and she would embarrass Mr. Harper.

Calmly, Winona closed her laptop. She then picked up a whiteboard marker.
