Seeing Winona firmly decline, Zack had no choice but to let it go.
As Winona reached the ground floor lobby, she checked her purse and realized she had left her portable charger on the table. She quickly spun around and took the elevator back up.
Stepping out into the carpeted hallway, she froze.
Down the corridor, heading toward the private suites, was Zayden Shipley. He was half-carrying, half-dragging a completely unconscious Simone Sterling.
Winona's stomach dropped, a sickening wave of adrenaline crashing over her. Was Zayden actually going to assault her?
She immediately moved down the hall, keeping to the shadows. As she got closer, she saw two massive bodyguards flanking Zayden's door. There was no way she could physically overpower them to get to Simone.
Calling the cops would take too long; by the time they dispatched a unit and got past the hotel security, it would be too late.
The restaurant was only a few blocks from Goddard Group headquarters. She didn't know if Stefan was still working late, and she had literally just told him she never wanted to see him again.
But this was an emergency. Pride meant nothing right now.
Ducking into an alcove, she pulled out her phone and dialed his number.
He answered on the first ring. His deep, steady voice instantly grounded her panic. "Ms. Jowett."
Hearing his voice made an unexpected ache bloom in her chest.
Pushing the feeling down, she spoke rapidly. "I'm at the restaurant near your office. Zayden Shipley just dragged an unconscious Simone Sterling into a hotel room. I think he drugged her. He has guards. Can you please send your security team to get her out?"
Stefan didn't hesitate. "I'm in the middle of a board meeting. I'll deploy my security team right now. I'll be there in twenty minutes."
Inside the luxury suite, Zayden tossed a limp Simone onto the king-sized bed and let out a disappointed sigh.
Simone was pretty in a refined, elegant sort of way, but she wasn't his type at all. He preferred women who were loud, curvy, and wildly sexy.
But his mother had made him a promise: as long as he married Simone and got her pregnant, his mother would turn a blind eye to however many mistresses he wanted to keep on the side.
That deal was too good to pass up. He figured he could suffer through a boring marriage if it meant unlimited freedom later. A wife was just an accessory to keep at home anyway.
He stripped off his clothes and headed into the bathroom for a quick shower.
When he walked out, a towel wrapped loosely around his waist, he sauntered over to the bed. He reached out to stroke Simone's cheek.
*Ding-dong.*
Zayden frowned, thoroughly annoyed. Who the hell was interrupting him at a time like this? He stomped over to the door and yanked it open. "What do you—"
Before he could finish the sentence, a fist the size of a cinderblock smashed into his jaw. Zayden crashed to the floor, head spinning, as a massive bodyguard stepped over him and pinned him down by the throat.
Winona casually stepped over Zayden's thrashing body and rushed to the bed. Seeing that Simone was still fully dressed and unharmed, she let out a massive sigh of relief.
