He wanted to ask if she was still holding onto her feelings for Yulen, but the words wouldn't leave his throat.
Winona nodded. "Yes."
She was thoroughly disgusted by Yulen at this point and had zero desire to elaborate on the topic.
Seeing that she clearly didn't want to talk to him, a stormy darkness brewed in Stefan's eyes. He turned away, silently watching the passing city lights out the window.
After dropping her off, Stefan returned to his own penthouse.
He immediately dialed his secretary.
"Is everything okay, Mr. Goddard?" Samantha answered politely. It was the weekend; surely he wasn't going to drag her into the office for overtime, right?
"That orchid," Stefan said coldly. "Did you throw it out?"
Unsure of what answer he wanted, Samantha replied cautiously, "I took it home with me. I was planning to toss it later tonight."
"Don't." Stefan's voice was sharp. "Bring it back to the office on Monday and put it right on the center of my desk."
Samantha was speechless.
Her boss's erratic mood swings were getting impossible to decipher. Then she remembered that Winona had definitely seen her carrying the plant out of the building on Friday. She had probably jumped to all the wrong conclusions.
Samantha opened her mouth to warn him, but the line was already dead.
She stared at her phone. *Fine, it's not my fault if she gives him the cold shoulder,* she thought. *The main characters are dragging their feet, and I'm not about to panic for them.*

On Sunday afternoon, Simone Sterling invited Winona out for lunch.
They went to a small, unassuming eatery near Riverton University and ordered two plates of ravioli.
