He had heard all the juicy gossip circulating about the Goddard and Mallory families lately. Knowing that Winona used to be entangled with Yulen, he offered a cynical warning.

"That Winona girl is incredibly manipulative. Whatever happened to her, she brought it on herself. She tried to sink her claws into Stefan Goddard and ended up pissing off Maeve Mallory. They went hiking a few weeks ago, and Maeve shoved her right off a cliff. Honestly, she's lucky she's not leaving in a body bag."

Yulen's chest tightened, a twisted knot of emotions rising in his throat.

After settling Sylvan back into his VIP suite, Yulen immediately went looking for Winona. He found her in a different section of the garden before she made it back to her room.

Winona's face went completely blank at the sight of him. She hadn't expected him to be here.

Yulen let out a heavy, patronizing sigh. "I warned you, Winona. I told you that messing around with a guy like Stefan would only end in disaster. But you refused to listen. There's no need to degrade yourself like this just to get back at me. Look at you—you're severely injured, and where is Stefan? He didn't even bother to visit you, did he?

"He was just using you as a shiny new toy. Stop this nonsense. Come back to me, and let me take care of you."

Winona stared at him, her lips curling into a look of absolute revulsion.

He was speaking to her as if *she* were the cheating spouse who had lost her way, and he was the devoted, long-suffering husband begging her to come home.

She was too utterly exhausted to even dignify him with a screaming match.

She looked up at her nurse. "Let's go back to my room."

The nurse nodded and began pushing the wheelchair away.

Yulen took a step forward to stop them, but a massive wall of muscle stepped directly into his path. It was Ezra Vane, Stefan's bodyguard.

"That is my wife," Yulen snapped, his temper flaring. "I'm going to take care of her. Get out of my way."

"Mr. Goddard gave us strict orders to protect Ms. Jowett," Ezra replied stoically. "And to ensure that people she despises do not bother her."

Yulen's blood boiled.

What right did another man have to put guards around *his* woman? The more he thought about it, the more suffocated and enraged he felt.

Pulling out his phone, he immediately dialed Nikita, Winona's grandmother.
