A large crowd had gathered to visit Wynne.
Sylvan Scully, Ophelia, Margaret, Yulen, Camille Locke, and Willow were all present. Upon seeing Winona arrive, their expressions shifted noticeably. However, since Violet had accompanied Stefan, everyone reined in their petty schemes and behaved.
Ophelia's eyes were bloodshot from crying; she had already fainted once. Sylvan and Margaret were currently trying to console her.
Clutching her chest, Ophelia sobbed, "How could this happen? Nothing can happen to my mom!"
She had expected Stefan to rush over and comfort her upon seeing her so devastated, but he remained completely stoic. A surge of bitter resentment welled up inside her.
Margaret also felt her son was being far too cold, but given the crowd, she held her tongue.
Sylvan, however, didn't exercise such restraint. In his eyes, Ophelia was no different from his own biological daughter. Since Stefan and Ophelia were supposed to be discussing marriage, Stefan's failure to comfort her in this moment of crisis was entirely unacceptable.
Unable to hold back, he reprimanded Stefan. "Stefan, Wynne is severely injured and fighting for her life in emergency surgery. Seeing Ophelia this heartbroken, shouldn't you at least go over and comfort her?"
Stefan gave him a frosty sideways glance but said nothing.
Infuriated by the dismissal, Sylvan stepped forward and glared at Winona. "Is it because of this woman you're so heartless to Ophelia? Stefan, you're out of your mind! If you let Ophelia go now, you'll regret it for the rest of your life!"
He spoke as if Stefan and Winona were nothing but a pair of unfaithful scumbags.
When Yulen saw Winona being bullied, his first instinct was to step in and defend her. But watching Stefan resolutely shield her stirred up a toxic mix of jealousy and bitterness within him. He convinced himself that she would eventually regret staying with Stefan. After all, who could possibly cherish her more than he did?
Camille, however, read the room differently. She realized Stefan was far more protective of Winona than she had anticipated. Had Stefan actually fallen in love with her? If so, Yulen truly had zero chance left.
An hour ticked by, and Wynne was still in the operating room.
Ryder Powell arrived, having rushed all the way from the capital. The man, who typically remained unflappable in the face of major corporate crises, looked utterly haggard, as if he had aged ten years in a single day.
Seeing him, Sylvan's face contorted with anger.
